Unusual Green Pelikan 400

I just purchased a very hard to find green Pelikan 400. I know what many of you thinking....what is so rare about that? Well for starters the binde is a deep green color, the turning knob is dark green and so is the section. As far as I can tell Pelikan only made this color combination in the 400 series. This color combination does not appear in the 400N or the 400NN models.

I will post pictures later this evening. I inked it with Iroshizuku shin-ryoku which is forest green color. The nib is a fine and of course it is as smooth as silk as the vintage nibs seem to be.

Hopefully Rick can tell us more about this model.

Congratulations - from the description provided, you have got yourself what is known as a Green/Green 400 from 1954-56. The Green/Green also came in the 400NN model and at least one example is known to exist of the 400N. These are not at all easy to find. Well done you!

I should add that the cap should also be dark green a la the section and mechanism.

You are exactly right the cap is dark green as well.

Here are the pictures that were taken of the pen by FPN Member Christof. I give him all the credit for finding this pen for me.

That looks lovely. Congratulations!

Nice Catch! As others have noted, not at all a common pen, though it is seen most often in the 400 rather than N or NN configuration. I'm not sure I've ever seen it in NN let alone N form.

Pelikan seems to go into Black Green for you and a Black Brown for me on my '90 400.

I'd been over at Rudiger's com, and found out they made it in Brown. Only when I have a true black next to that Pelikan 'brown' does it look and it takes a hard look, brown-black.

Congrads on your rare pen.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

Gary Lehrer recently sold a green/green 400NN. Catalog Nr. 54, pen Nr. 172. Price: $800

These pens are exceedingly rare and as such $800 sounds like a good deal from where I am standing. I've only owned one 400 Green/Green and I've not seen another in the flesh. Really, quite a rare pen.
