Do Excellent Fountain Pen/mechanical Pencil Combo Pens Exist?

Recommended Posts

Oh Combos! If I had read this earlier, I would have posted this one sooner. It is a Schnell Pencilpen. It is supposedly by the person who started the fad.

A few different makers, colors and sizes. I have been working on these for a week or so. I love the way the tiny electric blue one writes it is from the Southern pen co. with a little oddball nib I happened upon. Then the cow is Wearever pearl green is a Packard. Pearled maroon is a Waltham. Yellow and brown is a famous noname. And the cracked ice well it is a nice one but noname also. Then there is the JUMBO COMBO it is a Viceroy. The cow wearwever, Viceroy, Waltham and cracked ice noname are sweet for they separate pen from pencil. Sure does make for easy work. The rest well, they can be challenging; but I love it when they are finished and I proudly send them off to their new owners. ;)

I have about half dozen combos. The one I like the most is my Schnell's . The 14K nib is smooth as butter and the pen feels great in my hand. The pencil part does not get much use on mine. My Packard is my second favorite, it is big and bulky but I like the feel.

This top of the line Monroe was made by Eclipse in Canada. Measures a full 6 inches, capped.

Many combos, like those from Packard and New Banker, are noted for their girth. This "fatness'

was to accommodate large sacs --often #20 or larger -- attempting to compensate for reduced

ink capacity resulting from their short length.

While not a pen / pencil combination, I recently purchased 2 Wing Sung 728s which are a fountain / ballpoint pen combo. They were purchased because, being a couple of oddballs, I just couldn't resist :D

OrangeSport, that is just a normal set, not exactly a combo. ;)

It is. Just read the rest of the thread. I didn't release it was about hybrids in one implement...

I have just acquired one of these combos for around 15 dollars on eBay. It has a number 6 nib, and the pusher seems to be fine for the pencil. It does not have an eraser. It would be really cool to have a fountain pen/pencil/eraser combo. I am an artist also, and have just recently discovered the versatility of the fountain pen. I have been on a quest for the perfect pen, ever since Pilot stopped making the one i used to draw with.

Now I can buy a bottle of ink, and fill up the pen with the nib that matches my mood.I have some Noodler's Bulletproof black coming, plus every color of Dr. Ph. Martins concentrated water colours. I used to hand color B&W photos with the Dr.Ph.Martins.I got the entire set as a wedding gift in 1987.They have been stored in a cool dark place, and while some of them had evaporated a little, their colors were all stable. I just added some purified water to those that had evaporated a bit. They are not waterproof or light fast, but they are sure fun to play with. I can't wait for the Noodler's to arrive!

I am still trying to figure out how to share a photo from Picasa or Google Drive.
