Waterman Expert I Repair

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum, but I've been a fountain pen enthusiast for ever. I have own a lot of pens and I have either sold them, lost them or just gave them away. I still keep some, but I mostly write with three or four of them. There is one that I've been trying to "recover", since somebody sat on it years ago. It's a Waterman EXPERT I, the one with the straight angled nib. I always liked that pen since I'm not a "subtle" writer (if you know what I mean). If somebody could point me in the right direction to get the SECTION of that specific model, I would be eternally grateful. If this is not the right place to post this, please let me know.

Thanks

Alberto

You might want to check with some of the French members here that regularly put up Watermans for sale. They may or may not have what you need since the Expert 1 is a discontinued line. Look out for dboulannais or JML / lewertowski (on the Big Auction site).

I only recently discovered the Expert 1 and currently own 2, one in black with a broad nib and one in green with a medium nib. To me, the Expert 1 just feels superior to the current Expert 2 is so many ways, especially with regard to their nibs. I just love the angled nibs (I mentioned somewhere that the nib on the Expert 1 reminds me of the Viper starfighter from the old Battlestar Galactica series). The broad nib is capable of some line variation with some effort, something which pleasantly surprised me.

I hope you find a new section and nib. If not, then check the Sales page or the Big Auction site. Cheers!

Thanks a lot for your response. I'll try to follow your advice.

BTW it's only the section that broke at the thread. The nib is in perfect shape. And yes, I also love that nib. Mine is M and it writes great (it used to :crybaby: ).

BTW BTW I just realized that it's your birthday today  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I'm sorry, I'm a little lost. I really don't know what you mean by the Big Auction Site. Is one of the forums here at FPN or is a separate website?

Sorry to annoy you.

otherwise know as ebuygum....well it starts with eb....

DUH!!!

I didn't know you had this special "title" for the Auction Site. :roflmho:

I must tell you that was the first place I visited, and I have a saved search under "Waterman Expert", but there's only Experts II so far and nothing on parts.

Thanks for the clarification.

Hi Alberez,

Thanks for the birthday wish! Anyway, I'm always on the look-out for Expert 1s so if I come across any here, I'll be sure to let you know. I managed to snag one recently at $50 NOS, which I felt to be a bit of a bargain.

You may also want to do a more general search for the Expert 1 on the Big Auction Site. Don't search for "Expert 1" but rather just for "Waterman pen" or "Waterman fountain pen" or just plain "Waterman" if you're feeling particularly frisky. Yes, it'll generate a heck of a lot of listings but that's exactly how I ended up buying another Expert 1. Not all sellers know exactly what they have listed so they may just describe it as a generic Waterman pen.

Happy hunting!

Thanks for the response. In fact, the first thing I did was to look on the Big Auction Site. No luck so far. I have a saved search that will ring a bell every time a Waterman appears.

I contacted Damien Boulonnais, but he can't help me either. I have to arm myself with patience I guess.

Thanks for the follow up.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

YEEEEESSS!!!

I just bough not one but two Waterman Expert Is. I just finished fixing mine. The first I got at "the big auction site" was a black one and the nib was in pretty bad shape. The section was in perfect condition so I just cleaned it thoroughly and PRESTO!, my pen is repaired. I filled it right away with Noodler's Blue and it works just perfect. I love that pen more than I remembered. The nib is a medium and it just slides over the paper :cloud9:

I AM HAPPY.

Thanks to all the memebers that helped with their advice.

BTW if somebody is interested, there is another Expert I for sale at the big auction site. A burgundy, just like mine. Here is the link:

It says EXPERT DUNE, but it's not. It is an EXPERT I, and seems to be in excellent condition.

Congrats! Now, just to stoke the fire...so you think the medium nib feels good? That's because you haven't tried the broad nib...smooth as buttered silk, gives a luscious yet controlled line, some line variation if you try...heaven! You just have to go get yourself a broad-nibbed Expert 1 now!

Nice burgundy...I'd love to have one in burgundy since I already have one in black and in in green. There's a NOS burgundy Expert 1 at a store here but their asking price is...bleh.

Thanks my friend. I'll try to get the broad nib.

Just to let you know, there is a burgundy for sale at the Big Auction Site. Almost two days left for the end of the auction. Here is the link just in case.

It says Expert Dune, but if you look at the pictures you can tell that it's an Expert I.

Best regards and Happy New Year.

It means, "Expert, in Dune Red". Some Waterman Experts were called by that colour name, but I thought they were Expert IIs.

The most obvious difference being Expert 2 (flat cap rings) top and 1 (pronounced cap rings) bottom.

Then the nibs and sections have differences.

I just love the nib of the Expert I. It has a unique personality. Very nice pictures.
