I know that there was a thread comparing the Lamy 1.1, 1.5 and 1.9 nibs but I cannot find it and the search returns not results at all for "1.1" Can anyone help me find it or link me to hadwriting comparisons of the 3?

Well with a 1.5 I can write large and it's nice...a 1.1 I don't have in Lamy...I have B and M nibs in other calligraphy sets.

I am sure a 1.9 is too big to write with. I have a 4B Manuscript pen that is only good for making fancy Headings, and I think that's more or less what a 1.9 is worth having for.

I think the 1.5 nib is great for learning calligraphy, in that you can see easily, how you are manipulating the nib to form the letters.

Take down Lamy 1.5 and scribble....Yep, pretty, large letters, even with out a tad of calligraphy.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

I recall that those nibs are often mentioned, but not where. If you haven't already, you might try search for the words -- Lamy italic

Good luck. I really enjoy my 1.1mm italic nib on a Safari, currently loaded with Diamine Registrar's Ink. I haven't tried anything wider.

I'm no calligrapher, but here's a sample all the same.

I bumped into this a while back but I can't remember where I got it.

Is it just me or does the B nib have some stub-like characteristics? I've been trying to pick between the 1.1 and 1.5 nibs for regular use in my safari to get more color/shading out of my inks and looking at the B nib in that picture makes me think I might do well with one of those instead. Right now I'm using an F nib I reground into a cursive italic, and it's nice but colors just don't have a chance to shine with a reground nib (I'd say it's around .1/.5 mm actual line width with quick strokes)

I found this Lamy nib chart but it does not break out the italic nib sizes:

Excellent thanks!

Yer welcome. It was my pleasure.

I've had about 4-5 broad Safari nibs on my pens and none were especially "stubby." That's not a large sample, so take it as anecdotal advice.

My contribuition. Lamy 1.5mm is one of my workhorses now! I've not been using my Al-Star, cause my only nib was M, and i don't like it. After I've purchased the 1.1,1.5, 1.9mm italic nibs, I rediscovered this pen!

Lamy 1.5mm is awesome! :cloud9:

Edited: Add new pic.

Wow! Stunning handwriting! :notworthy1:

If you don't mind me asking, what inks did you use for that? :puddle:

I have a M nib on my Lamy and just haven't been enjoying how it writes. From these pics though it looks like it might be worth grabbing the italic nibs to play with!

I have got, with relatively light forces on the nib, line widths of 0.7mm for the 1.1i and 1.1mm from the 1.5i nib. This makes the 1.5i my preferred nib, matching the line width of my Duofold & P51 italics nibs. If you press harder with either nib, the line width grows to the nominal width of the nib, but you are needing BP pressures by then.

Regards,

Richard.
