Hello Dandelion,

Thanks for starting this post I love silver pens and it is a joy to see so many lovely pens here.

I'll ad pics of my Watermans as soon as I can.

Good lord, what a collection you guys have. Now I'd really like to see some pics of silver pens and platinum pens side by side in order to conclude if platinum holds any added value.

Are there some fortunate that can deliver such pics?

With love,

goldenkrishna

I can't afford Platinum pens, but the benefits of Platinum over Silver would be that it's doesn't tarnish and is harder (thus it's more resistant to scratches and dings). And of course Platinum is far more expensive. While some people would consider this an advantage, most would consider it a disadvantage.

Superb! congratulations! I have been lusting after one for quite some time now.

Thank you my friend. Got lucky with the bid. I would like the ishidatama (stone pattern) as well. This one is quite an understated pen. The nib is a bit fine with a little spring to it but extremely smooth. I am sure you will manage to get one for a fair price.

OK; I'm a total argento-phile (is that a word?). You asked for it; I'm going to start posting sterling overlay pens here.

Let's start with perhaps my earliest one.... Edward Todd.

Actually, this might be my earliest sterling overlay... A Fairchild.

I'm guessing 1890s for this and the Edward Todd I just posted.

I really like the Yard-O-Led sterling silver pens - particularly the Viceroys. The first pics depict the Viceroy Victorian in standard size. The last is my Viceroy Lined Grand - a lovely pen. You find more shots (oodles and oodles) of my YOLs here.

My eBay finds. I had made a search for piston pens late one night and these two popped up by the same seller with a "Best Offer" option. Offers were made and accepted.

Top pen is a solid 900 coin silver pen, hallmarked from the Czech Republic. It has a captive Bohemia Works converter. The hooded nib is slightly springy when writing. It is not really a flex as much as soft feeling when used. It is currently inked with vintage Skrip #22 permanent Blue Black ink. It is a pretty wet nib with this ink.

The bottom pen is a little 835 marked overlay piston filler, possibly German? The piston is frozen in the pen and days of soaking did not free it. It needs to be sent out for a tune-up. It sports an "Irid Star" Cromepen nib.

Your questions was pretty general and not to be a smart ass - it sorta depends. If the dent can be accessed somehow from the back side some careful pressure (and it may mean a lot!) can push it out some and then sanding and polishing can fix it. If there is a pattern, or engraving, then fixing it may be really tough. You may have to do a DJ Kennedy trick and repoussé the fix.

Cheers,

Rich

for sure --when doing repoussee it is ''normal '' to get very thin spots even holes --then fill w solder on back side

this is usually part of the process when raising a repousee====and chased tube from flat sheet the sheet is worked from both sides

then rolled up and seam soldered --then chased from the outside -working thin is most desirable to hold weight down in pocket pens

thin is of course the most challenging -------fine silver -sterling --22 kt gold is very good to work with

repousee vintage may have been plated to hide flaws and fire scale --dont know for sure
