Yard O Lette Pencil Anyone Know The Truth?

I have a Yard O Lette pencil.

I heard Yard O Lette was a brand of Yard O Led.

Really?

Does anyone know the truth?

My Yard O Lette pencil is made from sterling silver.

It is shorter than average Yard O Led pencil.

About 3.8 inch long.

It has hallmarks.

This hallmarks mean:

Maker:JM&Co

Date:1947

Material: Silver 925

Assay office: London

I know that JM&Co also made Yard O Led pencils ago.

Pat No. is incused on the top.

LUDWIG FREDERICK BRENNER applied for this patent.

I Think Yard O Led owned this patent.

The mechanism is very similar to Yard O Led's.

There are similarity between Yard O Led and Yard O Lette.

"Yard O Lette was a brand of Yard O Led"

I seem it is true.

I cannot give any guarantee to the veracity of this website but: "Early pencils by Yard-O-Led are very collectable, useable and offer excellent value for money. Round-, square-, and (rare) triangular-barreled models are some examples, but the firm produced a very wide range of designs. Other versions include a rare "heavy" pencil, and a small half-length design known as the "Yard-O-Lette". The hexagonal "Diplomat", a popular post-war model, is almost exactly the same today as when first produced in 1947." From http://www.achome.co.uk/antiques/instant_collections.htm.

Dave (Dave's mechanical pencils) on the other hand is well recognised in the pencil world: here is a Yard O Lette.

This clinches it for me (here) - it's a Pentrace report on a WES meeting in Birmingham in 2008 and includes this: "A variety were made, including shorter models (“Yard-O-Lettes”) with ringtops for the ladies and the same size with clips for gentlemen’s vest pockets."

Yes, really! The brand is not used now, perhaps not since the 60s or 70s.

Nice pencil you have there. Enjoy it, it will last several lifetimes.

For information, Yard-O-Leds were so-called because there was room inside the barrel for twelve 3-inch long leads.

When the company decided to make shorter pencils for pockets, purses etc., they couldn't call them the original name as it might have seemed to customers as if they had the same reserve of leads in them, hence the diminutive 'ette' instead.

Thanks to you, I understand what Yard O Lette means.
