New Ink Samples

It has been almost a year since I've done any ink photos. Since that time I've picked up a few more inks that I thought I'd share a visual of. In addition to the photos, I've typed out the ink info to make it easy for people who are doing searches. The paper I used for the samples was Georgia-Pacific Ink jet and laser 24lb-96 brightness. On a few of the inks I noticed a much different appearance compared to the Claire Fontane and Apica paper I use for every day writing. Some inks actually looked better, a few looked a bit duller. Especially the J-Herbin 1670. That sample looked washed out for some reason.

Anyway, I hope the scans will be useful for folks.

God bless,

Dave

sweeeeeeeeet!! Thank you for taking the time to do these! Now I know what inks I'll be hunting for :D

One question: Is it just my monitor, or does the J. Herbin 1670 ink look to orange. From other reviews I recall it being a nice red/burgundy color. All the other inks look very accurate to me. hmmm...... Perhaps the bottle wasn't shaken?

Need a pen repaired or a nib re-ground? I'd love to help you out.

Great lineup! I had no idea Rattler Red looked like that. I guess I never bothered to look just because of the name.

I'm noticing also that your sample of J. Herbin 1670 is distinctly different from the color I get and from samples posted elsewhere - very curious...

Yes, something has gone terribly wrong with that 1670 scan.

That looks like diamine coral or noodler's dragons napalm.

Thanks for the comments. :)

Yes, the JH-1670 was a dud, as I said above. Either it had a bad reaction to the paper, or perhaps because I was dipping the nib to do all these, it had a bad reaction with some residue from one of the other inks. I did shake the bottle very well so it wasn't that. When I have the time I'll redo that one.

Something else I noticed was how different the Noodlers Aquamarine looked on this paper compared to the Claire Fontain. On the CF it looked kind of washed out (almost looked like Noodlers luxury blue), whereas on this paper it looks vibrant. This makes me think that perhaps the JH 1670 did have a bad reaction with another ink, since the other inks looked great on this paper. I dunno.... :hmm1:

Signing off for now.

Blessings,

Dave

Thanks for posting this. How did you do the swabs?

Oh the swabs... I used a Q-tip.

BTW, I went ahead and retook photos from all the other ink samples I did awhile back. So I think I'm going to repost those when I get a chance. About 50+ different samples.

  • 2 weeks later...

Posting that would be a big help. Then we could see a color we like and could go to the review to look for characteristics such as dry time and water resistence
