Very Old Waterman Emblem Pen

Eckhard

Recommended Posts

I am a new member and my hobby is collecting old pens.

Recently, I bought an old Vintage Waterman Emblem Pen which I have never seen before here in Germany.

It would be very helpful if other members would let me have some more information about this splendid pen.

As far as I do meanwhile know, the pen was made in or around 1942. Is this correct?

Any answer highly appreciated,thanks.

Waterman Emblem is a great pen. Before Emblem, Waterman was producing "hundred year pen", that was meant to last 100 years, but than they encountered a lot of problems and difficulties with cracks ets and they gave up to the warranty and marketed essentially the same pen under the name Emblem pen. Some resources for your reading

They came in various colors and sizes, beautiful colors made of "Lucite", in my understanding an early frm of acrylic. Typically the end jewel decays after so many years, but there are talented repairers that bring them back to life.

I have a collection of several Emblem and 100 year pens. I love cigar size pens and the big Emblem, 100 year pens fit the bill. I love their nibs. Wish somebody with knowledge could write an article/book about their developement, "zoology", their rise and fall.

Enjoy your first Emblem. Hope you will get more!

Enjoy your first

A very interesting explanation, thanks a lot.

Regarding the "hundred years pen", the Watermanpeople were very positiv thinking indeed!

I like such cigar sized pens, too, firstly because of their shape and secondly because they lie comfortably in the hand when writing.

Hope to keep in touch and to share enjoying the Waterman Emblem!

What kind of nibs are fitted on them?

I like flex in mines and am wondering if they do come with flexible nibs?

Thanks

They came fitted with flexible nib and with firm nibs. I also generally like better flexible nibs, but if I have to write numbers and formulas for a while, sometimes firm can be better. Anyway, in my collection, the firm ones have written "firm" on them, while the flexible ones, well they just flex without any imprint giving it away ;)

Did the Emblem came in any other color than black?

Thanks

Yes, it came in other colors too. I do not know if it covered all the spectrum of colors of the 100 year pen, but I have Emblem pens in black, blue, maroon. I am assuming they came in other colors too. I have 100 year pens in green and red too.

Would you know the difference in size between the Emblem and the 515?

I never saw any Emblem before, hopefully they will have some a the show in London in October.

Thanks

I do not have a 515. They made Emblem in different sizes. I do not know if the two sizes were meant man-woman version. Anyway, I just checked, if it helps at all, a large Emblem posted is almost exactly the same size of a large Montblanc 146 posted, but it is a bit shorter when closed.
