Pelikan Size Comparison

Recommended Posts

I have been looking for some time now trying to find a picture that shows all of the Pelikan Souverän pens next to each other. I would like to see them all next to some common pens and a ruler maybe. Do any of you collectors out there happen to have all (or most) of the pens from this series? Could someone post a picture or give me a link to a picture? This would be greatly appreciated because I have no idea how big (or small) these pens actually are.

Thanks in advance,notworthy1.gif

I don't have any bigger Pelikans than an M200 to compare my Parker 51 to :( , but judging by the picture, my 51 (capped) is about the same size as a capped M800.

Wow... So the pelikans are pretty small pens then. That's interesting.

I guess you'll just have to buy more so you can find out exactly how big they are.wink.gif

Go to Richard Binder's site and click on "Pelikan". At the bottom of the page there are pictures and measurements of all the models and if you click on "Compare Pens Side by Side" you can include several other brand models including the Parker 51.

The posted length and weight of the M600 is about the same as a Parker 51.

I think the M600 is closer to the size of a 51, at least thickness-wise.

I apologize for the terrible picture (my phone takes lousy photos,) but this gives you a bit of an idea of the size of a M800 next to a 51.

This is an awesome feature on Richard Binder's site. Thought I might post this picture here for others who are wondering the same thing as me.

A very fine and utterly first class selection of pens. Congratulations.

Hi,

In the hand, my personal opinion (ymmv etc) is that my M605 feels most like a 51.

Hope this is helpful!

Hi feimo,

That is the M910 Yellow Toledo. It is the same size as an M800, and was the only one I had handy when I took the picture.

Wow... So the pelikans are pretty small pens then. That's interesting.

Small size differences make a big difference in feel, especially with the width. After a certain point, the length is rather irrelevant. My m1000 feels huge, whereas my Pilot Custom 823, which is longer, feels much smaller.

IMO the steel cap of the 51 is a slight tad heavier than the 605...don't have a digital scale.

The main difference that I can find, is the fount section of the 51 is thinner and one puts one's fingers (pinch or forefinger up) closer to the nib tip, making the 51 feel a bit more back weighted.

Both are good pens.

I find it odd, but in my collection, I seem to have mostly smaller pens. I would count the 605 as one of my larger pens when it is in fact only mid sized.

One of these days I must get a medium large and large plastic/brass sleeve pen.

I have metal pens, a Diplomat, Cross Townsend, and Lamy Persona that are larger. I do have also a Diplomat that is much thinner but longer, so it balances further back that the 605 or the thicker Diplomat.

I think one has room for the Cadillac, the SAAB, and the MG, in one's row of pens. Each, it's own, each good.
