Vintage Parcel Post Mailing Labels

Here are some fun old mailing labels. I think I buy things at yard sales that people think they'll NEVER unload. :headsmack: Any idea of when these would have been used? I had to lick the back of one to use it today and "Yuck" -- what a bad flavor.... fun to look at though. Any other fans of vintage mailing paraphernalia?

Nice find! I like finding old "air mail" labels and stickers and would have loved to find those labels at a sale. Not sure how old they might be (50s? 60s? based on the 10c price) but I wouldn't recommend licking them again. I like to use a moistened sponge for old labels and envelopes (sometimes old postage stamps, too) to avoid the ick factor.

I would put the labels in the '70s, but that is just my opinion.

I love finds at flea markets... sometimes you really get lucky!

As I seem to be making almost all my envelopes now, all of them bright or at least not suitable to write upon, I was looking for exactly those type of labels in Morpeth yesterday - not a chance. I got the "what are you talking about" face from someone in WH Smith when I asked.

I like your find.

I used my first label on a map envelope I made from an old atlas. Perhaps my labels could be scanned or photographed then printed from any computer to make labels. Is that of interest to anyone?

What a find! I love them!!

I also think they'd be from the 50s and 60s. The bottom example could possibly date back to the late 40s, but I'm no expert.

There is a similar-looking reproduction in the Cavallini Par Avion Vintage Airmail Stickers tin. I wondered about using it, just because I don't want any confusion with my mail - parcel post still exists, and I'd hate to slow down a letter. (Labels like Special Delivery and Air Mail aren't as much of a problem - special delivery doesn't exist anymore, and almost all mail is air mail now.)

I wondered about creating mail confusion too but the labels are so nice and I want to use them so I'm giving them a try.

GV,

Thanks for the tip about Cavallini stickers. I've been looking for a source for them. One way to use them without causing postal delivery confusion is to make faux postcards on correspondence cards, and use an envelope. For example, I used an old par avion tag on this one.
