German Fountain Pens

Thank you for your time and effort with sharing the little know history of German fountain pen manufacturers.

What you describe below is quite typical of any discussion board so please don't despair. The great number of new posts can easily push a thread to the back alleys.

Internet boards are like a real community only 'virtual' - due to this there is an added emphasis on building connections and sharing. It may be more compelling to support/reply to an interesting thread by someone you know versus an unknown poster. While this is not the crux at how a board functions (content is still the King) but it definitely plays a part.

Be rest assured that your posts are always enriching and continue the good work.

Hello Pen Friends

I must confess, I do not post here very much although I am into fountain pens for many years and an early member of this message board. I am not the "chatter" or "small talk" type and would contribute only, when I really have to tell someting. But it really often occurs, that there is an immediately communication breakdown and the thread disappeares very fast to the 3rd basement of the board. Why this? Are those kind of contributiones boring, annoying, too strange or not strange enough, trivial or not trivial enough?

Kind Regards, Thomas

I have a pen that was made in Germany from a company called "Dixon."

It looks like it was made in maybe the 60s or 70s. It's a bright green plastic with gold washed trim, gold plated nib with piston filler.

It's stupid, but i have this pen. Like for me it has letter "S" on logo and near it's written "Germany". And I haven't any ideas about name of the pen's brand. Has someone know anything what I'm talking about?

It's a Senator. Apparently the biggest maker of retractable ballpoint pens in Europe and nr. 3 in the world with 1,000,000 ballpoint pens produced per day - says the German wikipedia article.

You will find a very exhausting list on this spanish blog here, not quite complete, but - thanks to the author, I wonder where he has collected all those names!

Btw, if you take a closer look you'll find a lot more links to manufacturers all over the world there. Amazing!

I dunno if it has been mentioned, but Pelikan had a sub-brand for export called "Rap Pen." I think they were just rebranded versions of the old 100s. Also, I believe the name "Rap Pen" loosely translates to black horse.

Off the top of my head:

Montblanc

Pelikan

Lamy

Kaweco

Goldfink

Soennecken

Everyone should have at least a couple of German made pens in your personal collection.

My 3 reco's are:

Mont Blanc - a classic black laquer

Pelikan - a classic souveron series pen

Lamy - vista clear demonstrator.

Don't despair, since I always have followed your posts with great interest. You also have a lot of my respect since you have a lot of knowledge about these pens that is sorely needed. You also know a lot more than I think I would ever know about German fountain pens from those years.

Dillon

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

Please send vial orders and other messages to fpninkvials funny-round-mark-thing gmail strange-mark-thing com. My shop is open once again if you need help with your pen.

Although they appear in other similar threads, it is always good to add them again

Goldfink (manufactured by Melbi and Fend) I have an Astoria Golfink and I believe when Goldfink ask them to make a prototype they probably found it too expensive.

Juska

Fabula

Hi Ariel, I think we need more informationes about Goldfink. There was one person who told, that Goldfink never made fountainpens inhouse, but this is questionable. Originally Goldfink came from the fountainpen maker Fink in Berlin and then grew up to the greatest retailer in Berlin. An additive problem is (similar as in another thread) that there is a smaller fountain pen corporation named Fink in Heidelberg.

Juska is questionable too. Their fountain pens look extremely similar to the Orthos pens and Julius Steinmann only had a Patent for an ink blotter.

Fabula was made by "Aura" in Munich.

Kind Regards, Thomas
