2, The Carter Company Names,

The changes in a company's name are sometimes reflected in the trademarks, often when the same product names and marks are re-registered under the new company name. The Carter Brothers & Co. trademark no. 00388 from July 25, 1871, and used since 1863, is for the words "Carter's Ink". The Carter, Dinsmore & Co. trademark no. 06192 from June 11, 1878, and used since 1873, is for an ink bottle label with the words "Carter's Raven Black Ink" within a shield within a circle. Trademark no. 06194 for "Mucilage", also from June 11, 1878, and used since 1873, is for the familiar image of a glue bottle spilled on a crate with the firm's label on it, a man with his coattails stuck to the crate, another man trying to pull him free, and a laughing boy. The Carter's Ink Co. trademark no. 29879 from Apr 20, 1897, and used since Dec 1, 1896, is for a complex label with the words "Carter's Black Letter Ink".

I have added sufficient zeroes to the trademark numbers to perform the searches, so if you want to perform the trademark searches yourselves, simply cut and paste, or type the trademark numbers into the search window in the Registration Certificate Portlet. --G.
