Hi,

I've used a Preppy & a Pelikan M140.

Horror stories are plentiful for both the Black and the Blue-Black (Dark Blue)

From personal experience, I advise against using those inks, even though they have a few good points.

Pilot 78G and Lamy Safari, no problems

I have used both:

  • DaniTrio Densho (2 different pens, both XF nibs) - no problems
  • DaniTrio Takumi (converter, F nib) - no problems, this pen loves the black ink
  • Sheaffer Triumph Signature (2 different pens, 1942ish w/ F to XF nibs - one lever-fill and one piston) - no problems but more frequent flushing needed
  • Visconti Wall Street (black only, F nib) - no problem other than, like the Sheaffers, more frequent flushing needed
  • Visconti NATO LE pen w/ Binder CI nib (black only) - this pen did not care for the ink, flow seemed drier than normal
  • Bexley Mandarin yellow Duofold look-alike pen w/ fine nib (blue-black only) - just OK, hard to put my finger on it, just not the best combination, but no problems
  • Waterman 100-year pen (F nib, blue-black) - great writing line but tended to dry a little fast on the nib

Generally, I love both these inks. They, like many other inks, work better in some pen/nib/paper combinations than others. I find that I need to flush my pens more often than, say with Waterman blue-black; a price I'm willing to pay.

I still have plenty of pens to try them in but I'm in no hurry. The Kiwaguro/DaniTrio combination works so well that further experimentation may take some time. By way of background, my primary ink choices are Waterman blue-black, Florida blue and Havana brown (there are others as well. I just tend to end up back with these "friendly inks" after I venture forth on some new ink love affair).

I've so far used black Kiwaguro in

Sheaffer PFM V - fine nib - for about 18 months, without any problems; only recently flushed it out after the pen had been idle for over a month and everything seems fine.

Parker '51' Vacumatic - fine/med nib - for about a year or so, again without any problems and have only 'flushed' the pen once, after the shellac on the hood was dissolved by a trip through the washing machine a few months after it was initially loaded; I took the hood off and rinsed thoroughly before resealing it and there was no evidence of clogging or anything untoward - the collector came up beautifully clean and transparent, although I will admit it took a bit of time to get all traces of Kiwaguro off.

Sailor 1911 Classic - Japanese fine nib - which was loaded for about 3 months. It was very very fine but again, although it took a while to flush through it came up nice and clean.

Eversharp Skyline - fine flex nib - which was only in use for about a couple of days. I didn't find the ink very cooperative with the flex for some reason!

Only minor issue I've discovered is that if you leave the cap off the pen for more than 30 seconds or so the ink will dry in the tip of the nib making the next start a hard one, but once flow is restored it will continue writing nice and wet.

I think it's a great ink!

So far it's been a great ink for me in all the pens I've tried it in.

It's THE exclusive ink I use for writing in my Bible because it won't bleed through the pages which is nearly unheard of for a FP ink. So my plan is to keep it in my regular rotation.

Hmmm...you're all so lucky! My horror story is that I left the ink in a piston filler pen for a few months, and when flushing, saw two black, flat flakes of dust-bunny like stuff come out. One was fairly large at more than 0.5 cm! :headsmack: Of course, I can only blame myself for not flushing more regularly, but thought to share this with you guys in case you think of doing the same.

But I've also used the same ink mixed with Pelikan inks in an eyedropper Preppy and a Wality, without problems.

Hi,

I consider you to be very fortunate that you have not encountered an Event Horizon when mixing other inks with the nano potion. An inky version of 'Russian Roulette' that's not worth it. Even mixing inks from the same brand may have very different reaction with the nano stuff. YMMV, but I strongly caution against mixing with it. (Didn't want to rain on your parade, but...)

This is my experience in flexers, too. That's why I stopped using it and sold it.

Aurora Talentum medium nib, no problem at all, and it countered the somewhat toothy Aurora nib nicely with its smooth flow.

Delta 20th Anniversary - fine

MB 149 - broad

MB 146 - fine

MB Solitaire - double broad

Sailor Sapporo -fine

ST Dupont Orpheo - fine

All with no problems - although I did experience the gunk stuff when flushing one of them... Note, I am a bit anal, and, after a week of no use, every pen filled gets flushed...

Pelikan pens ranging from vintage 400NNs through M200/M250/M400/M600/M750/M900 models and Sheaffer MilClips and Valiants from the 'forties have all worked swimmingly with Sailor Kiwaguro Nano Carbon Black ink.

Great flow, no feathering, sharp ebon colour have the uniform experience for me. No plugging, no skipping, no loading/writing/cleaning problems at all...

Sailor Kiwaguro Nano Carbon Black is my "go to" black ink.

I have used it without any problems whatsoever in:

Pilot VP

Waterman Carene

Parker 51

Parker 45

Parker Duofold

It flows well, is very smooth and behaves well on a wide variety of paper. It is now my black ink of choice.

Interesting. I assume that you can see the writing through the pages, but it doesn't transfer through?
