First of all, this is a really great thread and I'm enjoying seeing everyone's writing.

My writing is a work in progress. Here's a sample of what it looks like when I'm not thinking about it:

http://rongilmour.info/images/handwritingNormal.jpg

And here's a hand with which I'm experimenting. I can't call it "my" handwriting yet:

http://rongilmour.info/images/handwritingPretty.jpg

The first sample is written with a Pelikan M205 F; the second with a Pelikan M400 EF. Both are unmodified factory nibs.

I prefer the first once over the second. For me the first has more character than the last.

I think there is no need to redesign your penmanship. Your current penmanship is also nice.

If the college entrance examination in 2011 requires writing anything by hand, you should improve your handwriting as part of preparing for this examination.

Most people can learn the basic principles of Italic (and get a good start) within three hours --

becoming fairly fluent takes anywhere from three days to three weeks (assuming 20 minutes a day of practice, in several shorter sessions)

then writing Italic as if you had always written that way takes about three months.

In three years, you may forget that you had ever written any other way.

For good resources to teach yourself Italic, read the "Penmanship" topic regularly, and/or follow the links in my signature to this message (under "Try these"). One easily available item for learning Italic is my iPad/iPhone app called "Better Letters".

Nice -- though the syllabication of "su-ffering" is decidedly odd!

I have a lamy safari with a 1.5mm stub and having a difficult time with it. I am left handed and can't seem to get the correct angle so that the nib is making full contact with the paper. One method I have tried is turning the paper perpendicular to me and sort of "drawing" letters top to bottom.

I'm not left-handed, so please tell me if I'm speaking rubbish!

As the moulded pen grip of the Lamy Safari is symetrical, the mirror-image of the same hand position should work exactly the same as for right-handed users provided you're an underwriter!

I seem to remember Ann Finley giving these pens a good review, and she's left-handed.

(update) I've found it - here's the review

Thanks for the link. I am an underwriter! I guess I just need to practice more and try to get that "sweet spot." I really do love the pen, I'd really hate to have to sell it, or perhaps I could just buy different nibs to swap out.

(My English is not so good,I hope you can understand what I said.)

Here's a sample of some of my writing, beneath a sketch I drew while waiting outside for my ride. This is about as raw and regular as it gets. I love swooping backwards f tails. The text is from my notes on a book called "The Stress Myth." The ink is lamy blue-back, variations in line width were caused by flipping the nib over.

I recently picked up a book on handwriting analysis, should be an interesting perspective.

Sorry in advance , b/c this is off topic....

I am having difficulty deciding weather there is some flaw in my Lamy 2000 M nib or if its just me. I had a expectation that the pen would write super wet, and lay down a bold line but from my experience that is not happening .

When you see guys/gals see the 2000 writing sample , do you see anything out of the ordinary ?

Pen ; lamy 2000 M nib

paper ; staples bagasse

ink; Private Reserve Midnight Blue.

thx

Here is a hideously-photographed sample of my writing with a Parker Vector. I seldom write the most interesting pen-testing tales, so the text is simply copied from a book on the English Language.

The quality of my writing varies a lot, and I don't know what causes the variability.

There are rare occasions where I really like how it looks, but usually, I try to just be happy with the pen and ink- and try to ignore the output. ;)

Just gorgeous!! Amazing that you do that with a dip pen. I could never get the hang of those. :)
