Pen storage trays for my desk

Hello again all,

 

Here are some pictures of two pen storage trays I made for my desk. I actually wanted a free-standing case, but didn't have room for it. However, I thought these turned out well.

 

The left and right sides are hard maple (stained with Minwax Colonial Maple stain) and have recesses dadoed into them to accomodate leather tabs to pick the trays up with. The upper and lower sides are African Rosewood. The clear finish is Minwax semi-gloss polyurethane. You will note that I used hardboard dividers in the slots already present in the drawer. This gave me a front section for pens, the one behind it for inks, the next one for envelopes, and the last one (not visible) for pads of paper.

 

Hope you like the pictures, and that they give someone ideas to make their own.

Yes, that is my ONLY ball pen on the far right It is a Pelikan Epoch, with an Itoya gel refill (far better than the Pelikan hit-and-miss refill that came with it!)

 

I use the ball pen on fountain-pen unfriendly papers and for carbon copies.

Thank you! The leather came from a pile of scraps my father had laying around, the rosewood from Woodcraft (many years ago), the trays from Gary Lehrer at gopens.com, the maple from somewhere in Pennsylvania, and the pens from all over the world
