Hammermill Laser Print Paper?

Recommended Posts

I have a ton of this paper at home. Probably three cases. Its used primarily in my laser printer. Has anyone used it with FP's? Does it work well? My gels and rollerballs seem to like it.

Cheers-

Have you tried it yourself yet? If it writes smoothly and doesn't bleed or feather you might have a winner on your hands. I've got some old Hammerhill Bond paper (watermarked & lined) that I love.

Well, if you've got a ton of it why not try it yourself? Be sure to report back. :)

Oh! Now it makes a lot more sense. Report back with your findings.

Here is a picture of the ink on the hammermill. Sorry the picture stinks. I have horrid lighting in my office.

So, do you like how it feels to write on? It looks fine.

I have some 24 lb. Hammermill "Ultra Premium Laser" paper bought this past Summer. I wouldn't call it particularly FP-friendly. It's one of those two-sided papers, but in general both sides feel quite toothy and the surface treatment tends to absorb ink, causing spreading and killing shading. It's not ultra-premium for this use!

Today it felt much better. Apparently, the preppys nibs need a little breaking in. The paint on the tip was causing a lot of scratchiness. Its much smoother this morning.

I like the hammermill papers. I use the 28lb color copy with 100 brightness for my circa notebooks. It does not bleed through, and has very mild show through with my Sensa Meridian Med NIb pen using Private Reserve Shell pink ink, or the black blue, and purple varsity pens.

Does that paper have some texture? It appears to.

Looks like it takes ink very well. What weight is this paper? Is there much showthrough on the other side?

Sounds like the 28# works well for writing on both sides.

I think I'll see if the depot has it.

I may not have been much help, but I DID bump your thread up to the top.

You're using the super smooth, with the green apple on the label?

Thanks; I'll check it out, see if it's good for making journals & such.

Also, the 80# might make good strong endpapers.

I used to like the Southworth business paper, but I'm beginning to waffle on it now.

It's a bit toothy and makes my pens write dry.

That toothy Southworth business paper is absolutely great with dip nibs. It gives wonderful shading and line variation ... but I agree it's not the best with fountain pens. (Oddly, it's the only paper I've tried that doesn't feather with Noodler's Baystate Concorde Grape.)

For years I've kept the 24 lb. Hammermill Premium Laser Paper on hand. My experience using it with FPs has varied. In some cases an entire sheet was FP friendly. In other cases, perhaps because the sheets weren't calendared evenly, part way down the page feathering began to occur. However, when used as printer paper the printing has always looked evenly sharp and very nice.

Best, Ann

Really? You like it with, say a Hunt 101? I'll have to try that. I have a journal I made with the Southworth that now feels almost waxy to me. :\

Thanks on the Baystate Grape tip, but I can't see writing in purple ink, though the FPN Tulipe Noire is almost something I can live with. ;)
