Inlaid/Hooded nibs pens list

Not sure, but maybe the Parker 65 .... can be classified as having an inlaid nib.

Alfredo

I think they are hooded.

The P65 is neither inlaid nor hooded. It's nearly, but not quite, flush with the section. Nice pen for all that.

Regards,

Richard.

Most MonteRosas didn't have a hooded or inlaid nib.

So what models of Monte Rosas had inlaid nibs?

The models in the late 60s and the 70s. The earlier versions had a standard nib that was either steel or 14 carat (sometimes even a Warranted nib).

re: Mont Blanc 12, 22, 31, 24, 72,82, Carera, Generation, Late 60s-70s Monte Rosa

There were actually several lines, In the two digit models there was the [1,2,3,7,8]4s and the [1,2,3,7,8]2s with the X4 model being slightly longer than the X2.

They were followed by three digit models 12x, 22x and 32x.

Well, I guess it's up to me.

You need to add the Esterbrook Phaeton 300 under "hooded nibs".

Here is one. Pic courtesty of Brian Anderson's Most Excellente Estie website.

The Pilot Super came in over 60 models.

The Pilot Super Ultra 500 has a very large inlaid nib. Some of the others like the Ultra 200 and 50G have a dart nib (I'm not sure how you would even categorize the dart nibs). Some of the others have what could be called a hooded nib.

The hooded/semi-hooded list is going to become very long since many manufacturers tried to emulate Parker in the 50's

Some example I know off the top of my head.

Columbus 85

Morison (Japanese company not Morrison)-I have a Morison with a hooded nib. This pen is basically a cross between a Parker 51 and a Pilot Super. No model number.

Form the fact that "inlaid nib is Sheaffer’s trademarked name for its unique, and uniquely timeless, nib that is mounted flush with (inlaid into) the surface of the gripping section; and is patented", I am of the feeling that no "Non-Sheaffer" inlaid pen can technically be called inlaid. (Reference: RichardsPen.com --- http://www.richardspens.com/images/ref/profiles/pfm/PFM_nib.jpgInlaid nib: Sheaffer’s trademarked name for its unique, and uniquely timeless, nib that is mounted flush with (inlaid into) the surface of the gripping section. Introduced in 1959 on the PFM (U.S. Patent Nº D188,265 for the nib and Nº D188,266 for the nib and barrel assembly), the Inlaid Nib is produced by inserting a finished nib into a mold cavity and injection molding the plastic shell around it to create an inseparable assembly. Variations of the Inlaid Nib have appeared on many Sheaffer models, including the Imperial, Triumph, and Triumph Imperial; the Targa and Slim Targa; the Intrigue; the Legacy series; and the Valor. Other similar-appearing nib designs are inset, not inlaid.)

I guess we also need the Soviet and East German "51" and Montblanc/Lamy clones: Souyz and Karkov. The DDR brand Heiko 442 and 444, Markant 390 and Markant Pionier 2.

From "mainland China": Youth and White Feather.

Guider has a pen with hooded nib called "Guider 51 T". I wonder where they got that name from...

I have a Chinese Huashi pen with inlaid nib that seems a wee bit inspired by the Targa, except it has a sharp bend instead of being rounded on top. Whenever I try to use it more ink seems to end up on my fingers than on the paper!

I was a bit surprised when I saw the name of the Italian brand mentioned on page one... Seems to have some interesting designs.

After three previous nominations, still no inclusion of the Esterbrook Phaeton?

Is the list in the hands of the Anti-Esterbrook Constabulary?

Could this list be extended to have a fourth category that would include those pens that have nibs flush with the section?

From a design perspective the aim for that attractive continuous shape seems a desirable goal which indeed has been achieved by the inlaid and integrated categories, then attempts at that same visual reward like the Parker 65 could be found in this resourceful thread.
