The macro revealed poor finishing on the nib - the dealer has assured me that it will be replaced.

Awesome photos ! Less awesome rhodium plating on that nib though. I just scrutinized the Pels I own under a loupe and none of the 14C or 18C solid gold nibs (belonging to the M400, M600 and M800 pens in my collection). They all have perfectly applied rhodium plating. It's a shame your nib made it through QC ! :headsmack:

Nice! I have one just like that.

Where could one aquire such a writing device? ;)

If you know someone in Germany who could send it on you could get a knock-down one HERE. I've been eyeing these for some time, but I keep seeing posts here comparing the plastic unfavourably with the M600, and it stops me hitting the 'buy' button each time. That, and buying two 100Ns and a Mont Blanc 146 in the last two weeks...

I have the M605 and the M650. The barrel seems to be manufactured from an identical material, which I understand to be Acrylic (PMMA).

They are sold in Germany by the "Kaufhof" department store chain for €99, see for example here. Apparently it is a special "export" model which does not show up on the Pelikan website. They also have other nice offers, look e.g. at the M250+K250 set for €75.

My understanding is that they were rather unpopular, when available, and cleared out of the supply chain at prices as low as $134 USD.

YMMV

Yes, that is also the impression I got - that they are trying to get rid of surplus stock. The Kaufhof chain often has such "special offers" directly from Pelikan, e.g. this creme yellow M200 which I have not seen anywhere else.

The blue M605 is not bad, it is not as "classy" as a green M600, but the size is perfect for my hand, it was WAY cheaper than a regular M600 and I still got the free nib replacement by Pelikan (I exchanged the M nib for a F nib).

I got both of them there, and am very happy about them...

I have one and really liked it. I use past tense because my wife has selected it as 'her' pen.

Could be.

I have noticed that perversity in human behavior. When the product is current you can't give it away, ten years after they had to take most of it to the landfill it is the dearest thing on the market.

Functionally, it is just as good as any of the other M6XX series.

Thank you very much. I just might have to get one of these. :D

It's simply not the case that they "can't give them away". If I lived in Germany or had somebody there I'd stock up. They regularly fetch $200+ (see here). The M405 in blue also commands a premium price.

I completly agree.

And after contacting Kaufhof, they will not ship outside of Germany. Ugh. :bonk:
