Sailor Special Edition

Today this interesting Sailor Professional Gear model was waiting for me in my PO Box, fresh from Japan! This edition was made for the Japanese domestic market earlier this year, and was available in dark red, dark green and dark blue - all in a "metallic lacquer" version of the regular resin finish.

This pen sports a large 21K two-tone Fine nib which writes like a dream! To me, the Pro Gear feels considerably bigger in the hand when compared to the Sapporo (Pro Gear Slim). I've inked it with PR Burgundy Mist for now, though it will get refilled with the FPN Tulipe Noire ink when it arrives. :)

Hmm, I don't quite know what to think. The black is what appeals to me on the standard Sailor models, but that red is very nice... deep red pens always have a more vintage look to me. Not sure why exactly.

Great buy though! :)

Beautiful pen! I love the dark red color and the metallic finish. The color is really warm and inviting but the metallic laquer kind of gives it a cool/modern finish, creating an interesting contrast. I really like the looks of the nib and the chrome trim suits it perfectly!

Nice addition Laura. Congratulations :happyberet:

I've always been partial to red myself and it looks smashing on this pen, works very well in metallic lacquer.

Congrats! That is one nice looking pen.

I am with Gojira. Can you say how you came by the pen? Flea-Bay, on line vendor?

I will bet the FPN Tulipe Noire will look great coming out of this pen. I hope you get your ink soon.

Very classy...now, I hadn't really been interested in any of the Sailors, but you've got my interest piqued!

keeping an eye out for: a vintage ED with a battered body but a superflex+ nib...and more M640s. ;)

I like the classic look of the pen. Nice acquisition Laura.

Sweet!

Being a hardcore Sailor fan I guess I am now on a new adventure. Any suggestions on where to start looking?

These pens popped up briefly on Yahoo! Auctions Japan, and in one Japanese online store. A few pens sold in auctions that were only 2-day listings, and then a few more pens were available in the sellers web-store for Y22,000 (~$210). I believe the majority of these pens sold through Sunrise retail channels in Japan...

I have no idea what the pen is called and no idea how many were made! All I know is that the edition is a joint-effort between Sailor and the Sunrise Trading Co. (Who have produced several pens together in the past.)
