ERO fountain pens

I saw yesterday a fountain pen (piston filler) that was produced and sold around 1960-65. The fp was made of plastic. On the metal clip was "ERO" printed and on the nib stood "ERO iridium". I presume these fp's are a German product, but am not certain. Does anyone know more about ERO pens?

I'm going to bring this thread back to life. I just did a search on "Ero" pens, after commenting on them in another thread: I found THREE references, lonely inquiries like this one that received no answers. SURELY, if there was some company out there that produced these pens, people on the FPN have come across them. Because they are nice pens: piston fillers, nibs as described above. I bought three new ones from a stall in a Jakarta market that probably had them for years, and then I saw a whole bunch in a junk market, second hand. The ones I bought look remarkably similar to a Peliakan 140, although I can't pretend that the nib is as classy - as described above. Still, nice wet line, and they hold about half a gallon of ink. MUCH nicer than the Reform pens, which get positive reviews here.

In my pen box:

One Pelikan M400

One Waterman Expert

Two Pelikan 400NN

Two Pelikan 140

One Parker 51 Aerometric

One Parker 21 Special

One SZ.Leqi

Three Ero (german piston fillers)

A few Pelikanos

On the way:

One Pelikan 100N

One Parker Vacumatic

Favourite Ink:

Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black

I actually have two ERO pens, which I purchased to resell. One green, one red, transluscent demonstrators. I have not yet photographed them to post in Marketplace. As far as I know, these have not been dipped or inked (that's what the seller told me, anyway) but they seem to glide over paper dry, and look like they would in fact, if not a ton, hold at least a half ton of ink. They look nice, and are well balanced in my hand, either posted or unposted.

I picked up an Ero pen in a trade nearly four years ago. It was green with a black cap, a piston filler with a fine semi-flex 14k nib that wrote quite nicely. I used it for about a year then sold it with a group of pens to fund another purchase.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, in fact I considered it my Pelikan 400NN replacement because they were very similar in design and function. The Pelikan I had reluctantly sold a year before I obtained the Ero in order to pay some unexpected medical expenses. Of course the Ero was not as attractive as the tortoise 400NN, but it was build as solidly, and wrote just as nicely--maybe even better than the Pelikan!

Hello all,

I perhaps was the one who originated the thread on the ERO pen as I have been also trying to find it's origins!

I picked it up at an antique place in Canada. It is a remarkable writing instrument. I am presuming it is German made or at least the nib was since it has the ingraved 585 at the base....it is iridium as well. I agree that surely someone must or have reference to this awesome product.

Any help with locating origins of the product would obviously help a few of us out there trying to either trade or sell or even just keep in "the collection"....

If anyone would like a picture of the pen I'd be glad to email and trade pics as well. So far I have not clean or refurbished the item yet miraculously it writes well which would indicate littel use prior to my acquisition.

At the same time I purchased another remarkable product which I have no reference to as well. It has an unusual emblem and the name of Ma Ga Ma. If anyone knows of this little gem please let me know....I have to repair it and need a supplier.

thanks again

Nice one, Ivo.

I've got an ERO I bought on Ebay - actually the second one I saw, since I wasn't sure about the first. I'm very happy I snagged it, as it's a very dependable writer.

I do wish the internals were metal, or at least black plastic, since I have a transparent green. The internals just don't look that good, but for the price, I'll deal. I did polish the plating off the trim, so the white base metal shows through.

The nib has no hallmarks, just "ERO" and "1" below, but from the evenness of the gold coloring, even over the tipping, I'd bet it's gold-plated. Still, it's a smooth medium that's handled every ink I've tried, PR to Pelikan to Noodlers. The cap band says "EK Design - Germany", but that hasn't helped my search for more.

I've still got my Ebay search active, so if more show up, I'll be there.

Best,

Jon

Edited to add: The cap "jewel" unscrews, so removing the clip to polish it is simple. It could be removed entirely, though the threaded portion of the jewel gets rather close to the nib.

Jon, do you mind sharing what you paid for the Ero on Ebay?

IVO! you need to start you're own thread on that one! We might be nuts about pens but my guess is your thread might be more popular *grin*

I just thought I'd chime in here - I have a pair of translucent green "demonstrator" piston FPs marked "ERO" which are absolutely identical to a model made by Senator, right down to the shape of the clip, cap band, et cetera. I'm fairly confident ERO pens are Senator pens, just re-badged, perhaps for a large retailer. Whichever name is on 'em, they're mighty nice pens.

I picked mine up on eBay about four years ago, for something like $8 apiece. :D

Pardon the delay; I just noticed this thread had new posts.

I found the auction end notice in my email archives - I won this on September 2, 2007, for $4.25. As is often the case these days, shipping was more, at $5.99.

For $10 and change, I have no complaints. Well, maybe one: the nib assembly unthreads, but I can't determine what could replace it. Esterbrook nibs won't - the threads are at opposite ends of the collar. Pelikan nibs might, but trying one would cost at least twice what the pen did. Pretty weak complaint, I know.

Best,

Jon

Oh man, I had an ERO several years ago that I loved to death. It was a piston filler probably from the 60's that I bought NOS off ebay. The nib was so smooth as to be almost instinctive. The clip snapped off one day and I glued it back and carried it until it started leaking from around the viewing window. I could never fix it and finally had to put it away. I still go look at it from time to time to and think, dang, I wish I could fix this pen.

Any advice in terms of dismantling / removing the section or is the section-barrel on the Ero FP all one unit? I bought 2 recently and I'd like to look at the plunger without breaking the pen.

I think the section and barrel are one piece - the mold line is continuous on mine. The nibs do unscrew, so adding a little silicone to lube to seal is simple. Actually looking at the piston might be a chore, though. I haven't tried to dismantle mine, but the internals are all plastic.

Hi! I am new here. I am from Banjarmasin, Indonesia. While browsing in an old store I found some box of ERO Fountain pen Replacement nib. I am not a pen collector, but I use these fountain pens years ago and like them.

The store owner havent sold any of these in ages, he consider it a dead stock. I purchase all his stock, about 120 pcs of gold colored ERO fountain pen nib.

Anybody want this? I want to sell some of my stock, I will keep maybe 10 pcs for myself.

I'll send some picture if you are interested. I dont know anything about this nibs, type etc. So I will sell it "as is" or in this case "as pictured"

Hi,

We have a family friend who had a Ero pen when he was young. He was telling me about getting it when he was still a boy in Indonesia. I should ask him more sometime, but I don't know how much he remembers about it.

Hi, I just scan the box of the ERO Nib, anybody interested? I will sell it US $1,5 each.

Just YM me. My mailbox is cluttered with Spam, I might delete your mail along the spam.

I dont have a credit card, therefore, no paypal. Anybody interested, I will have to ask one of my friend or cousin here to accept the payment. I'll ask around for shipment cost. We have Fedex, TNT and some other but they will be expensive. Post office is not too reliable.

I'll prefer buyer from Indonesia, it will simplify a lot.

I am trying to insert the photo- still trying.  Just YM me and i'll send the photo

I just recently bought a Ero-matic fountain pen, black finish with blue'ish see-through ink-cartridge. Can't find any info out there on the web on it.

Does anyone here know anything about them? All I can say is that after writing with it for two days now, I'm in love...
