Keep writing.

Keep doing it and doing it.

Even in the moments when it's so hurtful to think about writing.

I haven't seen that picture yet. Actually it does look like quite a beautiful pen! I'm wondering how it will look when it is turned in the light? Like the Concorde, which looks rather plain in pictures, but when you hold it in your hand and see the way the little bits of light circle the pen's circumference... very pretty! wub.gif

Pelikan states the 2nd* of April as the launch date . So be patient wink.gif

*Edited to correct the date.

I'd love to know more about how the pen looks, other than a flat picture. I live in Knoxville, which is hardly a place where the pen manufacturers open boutiques where I could check out the pens live in person.

I own a Pelikan 620 Grand Place, so I already know I'd love the feel of the pen. The color variation in the blue and brown swirls of the Grand Place are gorgeous. They sort of change hue and sparkle as you turn the pen.

Richard Binder does as well but both are pre-ordering.

This one kind of leaves me cold. Perhaps seeing it in person would change my mind.

OK, folks, our major local stationery shop redecorated their shop windows and the Niagara features in there, now. It was evening allready and started to get dark so I could notice nothing the pictures won't show you allready. Still have to get used to the pregnant body shape, while the cap itself is interesting. I couldn't see if it is transparent. Inside the shop no Niagara was on display.

I still have no clue what model number (Mxxx or Pxxx) the Niagara Falls has.

Also the new Pura in silver-blue looked nice. But I don't like slippery chrome sections.

Just got the Pelikan Niagara Falls straight from Germany.

Here are my first impressions:

In general:

I like the new Pelikan. Though, I prefer more the design style of the City Series.

This is what I call modern art, the Pelikan for the 21st century.

The writing qualities are very good. The nib is excellent.

The balance in hand very good (both cap posted and unposted), though I prefer unposted only with this pen because of its size.

The pen will be definitely liked by M800 lovers.

I also think others will like it because I do not like 800's but I do like this Niagara Falls (hope this last word does not mean that it rolls of my desk regularly.. wink.gif ).

In detail:

The pen is big. That means bigger than the M620 City Series.

It is also heavier: (19 grams vs. 33 grams).

It reminds me of the M215 vs. the M200 in weight terms.

The contour of the barrel's broadest part is about 33mm vs. 40mm. That means that the barrel is about 2 mm wider than the M620.

The type of the pen is M640. So I expect there will be more in this range.

Here you have a comparison with the M405 and M605 model:

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s77/hruud/FPN_Pens/Pelikan_Niagara/405_640_605_front_close.jpg

The nib is an 18C-750 white-gold. In my case an F(ine).

I filled the pen with Waterman Faux Tanzanite ink mix (50/50 Florida Blue and Purple: wonderful quality and colour! My favourite at the moment).

The pen comes in a luxury box like the City Series, but the shape of the box is smaller and rounded at the broader ends. It is light blue.

I have no pics of the box, sorry.

So, these are my first impressions.

I have made some extra photographs showed below.

I had help of FPN-members who reacted at my question how to make better photographs of pens. Though I still think I am a beginner at this point.

Regards, The Legend

The Legend:

THANK YOU!!

I really, really appreciate you taking the time to take all of those fantastic pics, and posting your reviews. I really want this pen now, to these eyes the design and new body/cap type are beautiful. M640 eh? That is so cool! drool.gif

Many thanks for the impressions! Need to check the pen out in real life soon as well.

Do you know how they produced the design on the barrel (laquer over brass, printed plastic,...)? I assume there is no "ink view" on that one ?!

Cheers

Michael (who still don't know if he likes this new design or not...)

Thanks for the great pictures

By the way, is it a piston filler? I saw it advertised as cartridge/converter filler elsewhere and was surprised...

Also thanks for sharing your impressions. smile.gif Enjoy the Pel!

It seems the nib itself hasn't changed. I can't warm up to the new clip, too bulky.

What irritates me is the new model number M640. The current M6xx style had the number range of M600 to M650 (with vermeil cap). Why do they squeeze the new bigger pen into that old range?. How will they number the variants? They should have started with M660 or somtheing like that. Of course the M7xx range is/was allready occupied by special variants of the old style M600.

By the look of it, it is printed plastic...with laquer over it..

The familiar piston filler, without look-through in the barrel this time...

The Legend,

So after spending time with this Pelikan Niagara have any of your views changed? I'm interested in getting one, but am concerned it won't meet my size requirements. Do you have any photos of this pen with a Pelikan 800. I always write with the cap unposted and haven't seen any photos that help me out yet.

Thanks.
