I only know that the three rings are used on limited edition,

The rings are fixed when the metal expands with heat and contracts till it is cold. The more rings, the more difficult,

The wife of a friend trod on his Mandarin LE a while ago and broke the cap. We found that the rings were put into a large groove with yellow spacers between them. This helped the repairer put it back together. Darned good job with no outward signs of repair.

the rings on parker duofolds are simply placed between the black parts.

it is really easy to replace the cap rings by simply screw the blanc band at the bottom of the cap.

i remember having a duofold with tree rings

here is a picture of some scrap-pens used for parts.

mind the duofold on this picture. it has tree rings, it was no limited edition.

the pen was damaged an was used for the parts,

I think the three ring may have been put together somehow, never spotted one before. (Nor do I take them apart.....)
