Superb Swan Leverless streamlined pen – Model 4660. Huge #6 Flex nib

Offered for sale is an extremely handsome Swan Mabie Todd Leverless fountain pen.

This pen was made in England around 1947 and is a twist filler. The post-war Leverless pens were offered in solid colours with nibs ranging from the entry level #2 through to the massive #6 which is fitted to this pen. The pen has been beautifully restored by master repairman, Laurence Oldfield and the twist filling mechanism works perfectly holding a decent amount of ink.

The pen has a fat, chunky profile, measuring 5.35” long capped and 4.8” uncapped. As you can hopefully see from the photos, the pen is in excellent condition with a nice crisp imprint. When I first got the pen, the gold filled trim was wearing a little thin on the cap bands and clip ball so I asked Laurence to re-plate them. The results are very pleasing but I should point out that plating is in no way an exact substitute for proper rolled gold and the plated areas do tend to tarnish after a few weeks of storage. Still, the pen presents very well indeed.

The nib is huge and very flexible. It flexes from XF to BB with medium pressure and is a real joy to write with. The ink flow is very generous and consistent which keeps up with the flex very well. As you can see from my hastily scribbled writing sample, this nib will add real character to your words and letters.

So in summary, we have a high quality English vintage pen in excellent condition which is also a fantastic writer. If you like quality and flex then I think you’ll like this pen !

I have had a couple of questions relating to the white specks that can be seen on the pen body.

Please let me assure people that these are dust specks and nothing else. The pen body is in excellent unblemished condition.

I used natural sunlight for these photos and the dust specks reflect the light perfectly !

Thanks
