The First Pregnant Pen.

And no, I'm not referring to the Parker #47 with its pregnant abalone and pearl slabs. See post #4 in this L&P thread, Parker Numbers.

Here's the first fountain pen with a pregnant barrel, patent no. 4,927. And here is the Wirt pen with a pregnant reservoir, patent no. 651,736. See also Paul E. Wirt's trademark no. 37,034, Sept 10, 1901, where it is described as "the representation of a hand holding a fountain-pen", and "the figure of a hand is represented as being posed in a pen-grasping position", and holding a fountain pen with a pregnant barrel.

There are hundreds of these types of images of hands holding pens in the US patents. Is anyone interested in seeing all of them in a book?

George Kovalenko.
