Parker Vector XL, excellent!

Just got this pen, as a gift, after eyeballing it for a while in the store:

Great feel, heavy, very well built, and top materials. The barrel is a bit on a heavy side, with 12mm across, and it takes a while to get used to...

Excellent stuff!! I can't wait for Parker to release a fountain pen of the same model.

Hi,

the FPs are already available, I have seen them in stores in Italy and in UK. I have the BP, but I do not like the grip it has.

U sure it was the Vector XL? I have searched Google with no success. The regular Vector is easy to find, but not the XL...

Yes, you can found them on the Parker web site(here). It seems that they changed the name in Parker Im.

Similar, but not the same. Though, I like IM's design too. I will try to score one of the fountain pens...

p.s. What's with the Parker's website? Am I the only one who has problems accessing it???

OK, got it. The pen is known as a "Profile" model in the UK,

http://www.cultpens.com/acatalog/Profile-FP-range.jpg

and I even found a review on the FPN

cheers,

Nenad

Yes, they are the pens I was referencing. I could have bought one, but I found them only with medium nibs and I prefere fine nibs. Anyway the gray one look beautiful.

I wonder who wrote the copy for Parker's Website? The blurb they listed about the pen seems kind of meaningless without an additional explanation.

- A wide diversity of modes to fit everyone's writing style and needs, even if they are very special...

- The multi-pen mechanism is gravity based; it is a very astute and easy way to choose the mode you need at the moment you need it

The IM is listed on Parker's website, but the fountain pen does not appear in Parker's US catalogs. I saw an IM ballpoint in Staples this morning, but from what I can glean, Parker has no interest in selling inexpensive fountain pens in the US any longer.

I ordered a Profile from cultpens.com, but I was already ordering other things from them so shipping was combined. For the price of a Profile + shipping you can get a Frontier or a Pilot Knight. I recommend cultpens highly (not affiliated in any way) but I can't recommend in good conscience paying more than the price of a pen for shipping.

...unless you're crazy for pens like I am! I bought mine just because I was curious about it. There's a paragraph or so about it here: http://splicer.com/2007/04/29/meet-the-parkers-part-i/ and more about my conversations with Sanford here: http://splicer.com/2007/05/15/meet-the-par...ot-parkers-yet/

Finally, the Profile is not available in a fine point, but Parker will replace the nib with a fine any time within 30 days of purchase. Seems to me it would be simpler for them just to sell a fine point Profile (and to sell it in the US!) but maybe that's why I'm not a Sanford executive.

If you don't feel like clicking on my blog links, the quick and dirty version is that the Profile is a lot like the Vector, but better, and this is coming from a guy whose first love (at least among pens) was a Vector.

Who are the pen shops in your neighborhood? Find out or tell us where they are, at http://penshops.info/

greeting fellows. found this magic post. i got XL 10 approx 10 years ago. had fun with it. now the barrel come off with the top part, maybe jam with the ink leaks.

i soak the part with 95% alcholo overnight, managed to get some leaked ink out. but the "top bit" still jamed with "barrel".

need your advice. thanks.

PS. the imprint "T made in UK' indicates its probably was one of the final batch from Newhaven.

I'm not familiar with this pen. Are you sure it comes apart (looks like it should). Have you had it apart before?

If so, I'd suggest: Put on a pair of rubber gloves (like washing-up gloves) to improve your grip.

Grab one part firmly in each hand and twist back and forth until it comes loose.

Good luck.

I've seen some Vector XLs for sale on eBay, but was wondering about the pen size (as opposed to the standard size Vectors).  And from another thread I was reading recently, apparenty you ALSO have to be careful to not get a Chinese fake....

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Parker has used the same name in two different pens. There was a Vector XL some years ago, now there is the Vector XL name in a newly design pen with trendy colours and semitransparent sections of the same shade of the pen. I haven't seen one of the fake Vectors yet ,but all the new Vectors that I saw in the store had the colourful sections. The nib size is engrave on the nib.
