Beautiful Nakaya

What do you think of the Nakaya Housoge Kikyo Platinum? Is it beautiful or am I so enamored that I can't see it correctly?

Beauty is extremely subjective, so it really just depends on how your tastes run. The Nakaya Housoge Kikyo is more ornate than I like, but I can certainly see where people would find it beautiful. I've only seen a couple of very odd color Nakayas that I truly disliked, otherwise they're all amazing to me.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I have to agree with you here -- the Housoge designs are breathtaking!

I have a shu/red/charcoal and it is indeed beautiful and always a joy to look at (even after four years).

The Kikyo Platinum is a bit too bright for my personal taste.

Greetings,

Michael

I feel convinced to sell a kidney. The second one is just in case the first one gets messed up, right? I'll just take really good care of it.

Not to my taste, but I can see it as a work of art. Mine is a simple portable writer, no clip, Aka Tamenuri.

I think I still need both of my kidneys, considering the amount of alcohol I consume, so I opted for the Platinum ChinPlatinum Karakusa.

That doesn't mean I won't go ahead and sell one someday and get the Nakaya though!

Hi Maverick,

Thye're both made of the same method; Chinkin; carving on the barrel and then filling up the marks with either gold or in these cases; platinum, but I guess Nakayas are made by skilled craftsman/masters while the 3776 are made in factory by normal workers. The barrel materials are also different; the Nakaya Housoge is made of Ebonite, and I believe you can choose all different kinds of urushi finish/color, while the 3776 is just carved on celluloid, just as pretty though. The price of the 3776 is slightly less than 50% of the Nakaya.
