Montblanc 252 Modifications

I was looking for the spare top for my new Montblanc 252 and found interesting things (with respect to the authors of the pictures).

There are at least 3 main modifications of the model #252.

1. Transparent ink window, "MONTBLANC" inscription on the cap, no inscription on the cap's ring (round snowflake on a black leg).

2. Transparent ink window, no inscription on the cap, "MONTBLANC * 252" inscription on the cap's ring (round snowflake).

3. Blue ink window, no inscription on the cap, "MONTBLANC * 252" inscription on the cap's ring (round snowflake).

3a. modification of the #3 - snowflake is in tablet-form (not rounded). I suppose that a tablet-top was adopted from another model.

3b. modification of the #3 - absolutely different spring, the snowflake is not visible on both pictures (lego?).

Colored pens (grey and burgundy) have transparent ink window and small convex snowflake (different shape then #1 and #3).

I have rounded snowflake on the white leg (not black).

Can someone say to which period above modifications can be attributed to? what about the circa of my white-leg snowflake' pen?

Can tablet-shape can be considered a modification of a main model?

If someone has an idea how to repair my snowflake or has a spare one - please advise.

Thank you.

As I'm sure you're aware, your white snowflake (snowcap)(star)(splat) has simply lost its black surround. I had the same thing happen to my 254. The black cracked and came off in two pieces. I tried to glue it back, at first - but it was a very fragile and thin piece of resin and it crumbled to bits while I was handling it.

In the end, I made a small mould which fitted around the the white circle and poured black resin around it. When it had set, I sanded it down to shape and polished it up. It looked alright, but wouldn't pass muster as the real thing.

I was looking for a new cap, at the time, and when the replacement part was found, it came with a good snowcap, so problem solved. I think that the only way you will get a replacement is from a parts pen/donor pen.

Never seen the flat topped versions before. Wonder if someone has performed a swap, or if they are a true variant?

The design of the jewel on these 25x pens is one of my favourites. They're beautiful pieces.

Not at all sure about the pictures you show in 3b? What are they? Variants? Or frankencaps etc?

Nice post on a nice model. Thanks.

Thank you both. I have a 252 waiting for me, and when it gets home I will check it against these photos. (And will make sure the cap is sound, too!)

Just arrived at home.

Specific characteristics of my MB252 :

 - “MONT”+logo+“WHITE” MARKING on the cap

 - “252”+”KF” MARKING on the filler cap

 - Colorless transparent ink window

 - No marking on the golden ring

 - Feeder : only 2 vertical lines

 - nib: Mont+blanc+14C+Montblanc+585

Question for investigators :

What would be its year of production?

According to fountainpen.de, the clear transparent window is 1954-56 and the blue transparent is 1957-59. Various sources claim that the absence of an imprint on the cap band is the earliest version of this model but the plain cap band is shown in several Montblanc documents from 1954 to 1956, while an imprinted cap band is shown from 1957 onwards.
