Cigar Case In Lieu Of Pen Case?

Friends,

I think I have found the perfect case for me!

I found an original leather case from a Le Grande 147 Traveller in my local craigslist.

Got it for $30. The case is brand new and never been used.

Tried the 149 but the slot is too tight, just really made for the 147 size.

So what I did is to steam the leather slot from my boiling kettle, and as soon as the leather is soft and wet,

inserted a plastic tube slightly bigger in diameter than the 149.

Let it sit for the night and removed the plastic tube in the morning.

As you can see, the leather has stretched and the 149 now is perfect inside the leather slot.

It even fits my 162 Rollerball and the Classique ballpoint (the leather flaps for the 6 disposable cartridges)

This I think is the perfect 3-in-1 case for me.

This is the one I use on my desk at home. A box type with 5 individual slots. Not real leather but still an interesting piece to me.

That is a very nice pen case.

Would you have a link to where could I get one, please?

Fantastic job. I will get a Traveler case in my first convenience. What you did turned out perfect! Well done!

That is a stout case. I personally don't care for the cases from MB as they are a bit overpriced and I think there are plenty more options out there. This is a great example. Thanks for the pictures! :yikes:

So many beautiful cigar and pen cases, a pleasure to see.

I have found some vintage cigar cases, which I use for carrying fountain pens when traveling. As touched on by Chris above, it is important to have strong dividers. Some cigar cases are too open between slots. For cigars, which are relatively light, they will stay in place even if there is not much separation, but pens, being heavier, can strain the sides and bump into each other. Those cases are okay if the case is kept in a stationary place like a desk but for traveling around, cases slightly stiffer with well separated compartments are safer.

The problem with the cigar cases I have is that since they are only a slip fit they can slide apart very easily especially if they are old and somewhat worn. If you don't handle them carefuly the section containing the pens can drop on the floor. (Any guesses how I know?). 3 large pens full of ink weigh quite a bit more than 3 cigars!

Today is a gift.

I've used quite a few cases and rolls before settling on a two pen cigar style case. It has a W stamped on the inside but I don't think it is Waterman.

A cigar case would do, i had never really thought about it up until reading this thread. The leather cigar cases I have, have quite a bit of friction holding them together - they could easily carry a couple of pens without coming apart.

If you do go down the cigar case route, as someone else above said - size matters. i would suggest starting the search with cases made to fit Corona Gorda size cigars - there is one in the picture below for comparison:

My first 'pen' case was a three cigar case....it being made back when cigars were smoked did not stink like a goat.

There are nice alligator/crocodile ones too.

Cigar size is very important. Mine will take a thin pen, and two large or medium large pens. It would not take an over sized 149/1000.

I now have 4-5 two regular pen pen cases, I never use. I just stick the one or two pens in a shirt pocket.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

I have a cigar case like the one Farmdogfan pictured in his post. Initially, it smelt of smoke and cigars, because I bought it from a guy I know at the local campus smoke shop. I left it where it could air out in the house for about a week, and by then, it didnt smell of smoke. In the past 14 yyears or so I have had it, it has given great service. I carry my 149s in it, sometimes even carry my Delta Dolce Vita OS or my Pelikan M1000s. All of then fit very well.

I have been searching for a nice case for my 149 and 162.

The MB Meisterstuk case is fine but the flap is not working for me,

I dont know what it is but opening the flap to access the pen is annoying me.

Also, Im not a fan of zippered cases.

Im thinking maybe a leather 2 finger cigar case would work.

Anybody uses one fo these? How is it working for you?

Any pictures will definitely help me decide.

Cheers.

I would suggest the Montblanc Platinum Line in leather which is a supple lambskin case that is much nicer to use than the Sienna.

It doesn't fight back. Comes in a 1, 2 or 3 pen case. Nicely appointed trim as well.

Inked
