Franklin-Christoph - Model 19 “1901”

After recently purchasing my first Franklin-Christoph pen, the Model 29 Bellus Special Edition, I quickly decided to purchase one of their higher end models. I chose the Model 19 “1901” in black with King’s Gold bands and medium nib.

I have been using the pen extensively for the past five days, and while I am not at all pleased with my choice of ink, the pen has performed beautifully. The 18k gold nib simply glides across the page!

The weight and feel of the body is perfect for my tastes. The Model 19 is about the same weight as the Montblanc 146, though it is closer to a Visconti Homo Sapiens or midsize Delta Dolcevita in terms of size.

The Model 19 uses international standard cartridges and converter (included.) The cap is threaded for closing the pen and uses friction when posting. The body is made of acrylic, while the clip is rhodium plated. It is available in various colors for the bands, and the body, well you can have that in any color so long as it’s black. The nib is available in the usual EF, F, M and B variations.

This pen will be seeing a great deal of use in my future, especially once I put a better color ink in it. It is a true pleasure to hold, behold, and above all, to write with.

Nice review, thank you! Very elegant pen.

Great touch of getting the gold nib. I have a Model-19 myself... Mine is a unique version that they brought to the Raleigh pen show... the Black acrylic with white bands, has some silver shiny sparkles all over the body, giving it a gray-silvery color altogether.. It is a lovely pen, mine is fitted with the standard SS nib in M point size! and a converter.

I agree with all the comments, lovely pen to show, comfortable to hold and ... (when I was able to test it at the pen show) the gold nib is smooth as butter!

enjoy your 19 !!

Thank you so much for this review. I've had this exact pen on my list for a few months now.

Very nice review!

I have a #19 "1901" also with the smoke colored rings. It has an 18k gold two-tone Masuyama Broad Italic nib.

I will tell you all that I favor it over so many more expensive pens. I go to this one very frequently in my rotations as it is a thrill to write with it and to behold aesthetically both in the visual and the tactile.

Big bang for the buck here, as I've found to be the case with a bunch of other F-C fountain pens (#65, 66 and 40p).

I looked hard at this model but chose the new 03. The 1901 looks fatter than my Pelikan 805, and that's really a big as I'd want. But it's a gorgeous pen, an understated elegance.

Wow, that is a very nice pen. I've been looking at it for quite a while and was wondering it the Gold Band is more of a brown or actually a gold gleam?
