Small Ebonite Pens From Guider, India

Hello folks, I'd just received my no3 ranga ebonite (blue/green/orange) from Ranga pens, and then I received an email from M.P.Kandan about Guider and Ratnam pens that they also offer. What caught my eye was the Guider Short & SUPER Short versions:

GuiderShort&SuperShort.jpg

Okay, I'll admit that the SuperShort looks kind of cute, but also a bit mad! Dimensions are:

Guider Super Short Pens - Cap-10mm Dia, Barrel-8mm Dia, Capped Length -50mm

Guider Short Pens - Cap-12.5mm Dia, Barrel-12.5mm Dia, Capped Length -95mm

Given that the Stipula Passaporto eyedropper is 93mm long capped, this SUPER short offering looks teeny-tiny indeed! Sooooo teeny-tiny that I'm wondering if it can actually WORK as a working pen! So, rather than just throwing some money to the winds and buying one to find out (Oh, okay, I'll probably do that anyway, I'm just too intrigued!), I just wondered if anyone else here has tried these Short Guider ebonite pens?

Do you think someone was just at the lathe one day, and wondered HOW small a piece of ebonite they could actually make into a pen, given the off-cuts lying around? A test of their skill!

What makes a Passporto work is that you can post the cap. It doesn't look like either one of these post.

BTW, I love the username.

From the photos, it looks like the Short wouldn't post because the cap is flush with the barrel, but the Super Short might because it isn't. Very cute pens, sizewize, but the ebonite looks a little drab. I think DrGoretex made a little guy about the size of the Short because of a larger pen project snafu, or something of the sort. It was really fun looking, a blue/green swirl design.

Yeah, I agree about the SHORT not posting. But the SUPER short MUST post, else it would be like trying to write with a pencil stub. But even posted, it just isn't going to be that long.

Now I usually quite like short, stubby pens, but experimenting with my FPN Passaporto, I need at least 9cm for comfort. And I don't see how I'm going to get that from either of these wee beasties!

Must not let my wish to possess overcome functionality...............................I'll see how long that resolution lasts! :)

Addendum: I found a design of micro pocket pen here:

http://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread.php/2181-Micro-Pocket-Pen-in-Golden-Smoke-Resin

but at 85mm it posts using a screwthread to give you a usable length. Very pretty BTW. so I still can't see how even the SHORT would work at 95mm capped since it really doesn't look as if it does post.................

Other than the "Fountain Pen Revolution", where can I buy Guider pens on-line?

I know that FPN member Mesu has Guider pens from time to time, you might contact her to see if she's got any of these. (no affiliation)

Check our own Classifieds. Fellow FPN-er Mesu has advertised there with several Guider pens. I've bought several pens and Mesu is a pleasure to deal with. Gives good value too.

The usual disclaimers apply: no affiliation, but I would recommend Mesu, especially for pens that you won't find at FPR...

They look nice and shiny, colorful, but - would they be comfortable to use? I can't believe the clipless is actually meant to write with - too small to hold?

What are the dimensions?

The small size pens are for kids who are just starting to use fountain pens or collectibles.

All the small pens are my 8yr old daughter's who just started writing with fountain pens. The blue acrylic is currently inked.

The smaller brown ebonite is mine :)

Dimensions of Acrylic: 10 cm capped, 8.7 cm uncapped, 11.5 cm posted; Section width: 0.95cm

Dimensions of clipless: 9.4 cm capped, 8.75 uncapped; Section width: 0.9cm

Nice, you have a budding collector in there!

The dimensions of the acrylics are similar to those of my smaller pens, and if posted I find them relatively comfortable to hold, and I do use them. But that smallest pen - an amazing piece of work, and it looks like it might even write!
