Problem With Diamine Racing Green Ink From Missing Pen

Recommended Posts

Hello all:

I recently purchased a bottle of racing green ink from Missing Pen in Germany.

However, when I opened the bottle the contents looked like "sludge" - with a nasty thick, oily, bubbly sheen.

I have already contacted Missing Pen, but has anyone experienced this? Just kind of bummed since I was so looking forward to it.

Best regards,

Patrick

looks like foam...as if the bottle has been shaken vigorously...just wait for a day for the foam to settle.

anyways when you filling a pen the nib is submerged and it should not be a problem.

Yes, I too would suggest foam. I like this ink so much that I have aleady bought 3 bottles of it (over ca. 1 year) and not yet seen any such problems...

Thanks guys. I'll give it a few days to settle down. I am excited to try it with the "extinction" of MBs Racing Green.

Don't forget to post a pic in a couple of days. I'd love to see the outcome of this.

I got a couple of bottles from Rolf at the end of last year and they seem OK. The only 'issue' I have with it is the high 'pink' dye component in the mix which is the hardest part to wash out of a piston-filler if I'm changing inks or giving one a rest. I love the ink and it's permanently in a 600 now.

Thanks! That supports my own supposition that red dyes may in fact belong to the most insoluble dyes. [A] When I wash out any piston filler and/or an adapter for a cartridge pen -- say, standing at the sink -- and wait until I see only clear, uncoloured water coming out, I then leave same filled with water in a glass of water overnight. I'm often astonished to see next day that there is still some red which has come out. Ditto the fingers on my hand (although I don't always spend all night in the swimming pool).

Phil Davies at Diamine said much the same thing, about the red/pink constituents. The worst 'oil' effect on a Diamine ink surface, was with a bottle of Green-Black but I soaked it up, off the surface, with some kitchen towel and it's never come back.

I think FPN member Renfield had a sludge occurrence with the RG so perhaps he'll see these posts and respond at some point.

(Just like the Shop Owner in Mr Benn) And as if by magic he appears :)

My bottle was not foam, it was definite sludge. It was in the cap and the bottle. And even after a few days it was still there.

I took some pics and sent them to Rolf, and he agreed to send me a new bottle.

I can't say enough about the Service and Delivery times i have got from Missing Pen. Rolf has always been quick to respond and ship. I think I just got a dud bottle, these things happen.

Here are my pics for comparison

Renfield, that definitely looks like what I have. Sludge on the rim and neck of the bottle and cap. I will contact Rolf. That said, I filled a 234 1/2 to test the ink and it is a very nice color. I am wondering if I should keep away from such inks with delicate vintage pens. Thoughts? I will post a writing sample soon.
