I looked around for quite a while for a wall mounted case for my pens. I thought I would share what I found. I purchased this from pendorapens.com (no affiliation) and am very happy with it. It holds 26 pens and I got to choose the insert color (from black, blue, or red) and Michelle at Pendora worked with me to pick the best stain for the oak to get the look I wanted. I love it and also love having the free space on my desk! I have no idea why the attached pictures are sideways, but I promise it goes vertically on the wall :)

That looks very nice, jzara, and appears to be sturdy and well made. You have some nice pens, as well. :thumbup:

 

(You should be able to rotate the photos in whatever photo software you use and then repost the modified files. I think the box is still very good looking even if I do have to turn my head a bit to see it in the correct configuration! :))

Is it a good idea to leave pens half exposed to light, and half to dark ?

 

I'll be not very confortable in doing this, in particular for celluloid, ebanite, and similar materials.

I shouldn't think this would be a problem as long as the display box is placed so that it is never in direct sunlight. :unsure: There are many storage/display cases made for fountain pens that have glass covers; it would be good to know if artificial light or indirect sunlight might harm pens as well. Hopefully, someone with experience with such cases and/or with pens made of the materials you mentioned will weigh in.

I have a BHR pen that is black on one side and brown on the other. Clearly it was exposed to light in one position for quite some time, perhaps on a display card in a store window.

 

That said, I would want to be sure that the glass of the case was UV resistant to cut down on the possiblity of fading.

The pen case is on the wall in my basement, so direct sunlight is not an issue. I guess if you were worried about uneven light exposure, the pens could easily be spun over time to keep the exposure even.

The strange thing about the orientation of the pictures is that they are upright both in the original image and when I view them on my iPhone? I have had this issue before when posting pictures of pens to sell.

      I've used clear silicone greases labeled for plumbing and diving purposes on pens. All seem to have similar resistance to water and atmospheric exposure, with the level of viscosity being the primary mechanically detectable difference.   I've used these on Sheaffer Snorkel / touchdown filling pens and modern fountain pens to lubricate and enhance the sealing of synthetic rubber and silicone o-rings in filling systems as well as section seals for ED pens.       The MSDS for Molykote 111 states "It is generally resistant to dilute acids and alkalines and to most aqueous solutions."   I would take that as it should not have any issues with 99.99999% of fountain pen inks.

      The grease that I have used for over 15 years, and recommend is Down Corning Molykote 111, and no other.  This is a silicone grease that is recommended for use on 0-rings and is designed to resist washing off. so it is less likely to wash off into your ink.    It is a food grade silicone grease.

      The best lubricating grease that I have found (I use it for assembly of 3D printed items that need lubrication, for food contact items, and for piston fillers (or even barrel or cap threads that are squeaky) is Super Lube brand Silicon Lubricating Grease (PN 92003) A 3oz tube should last you a very long time (it does not take much).     For piston fillers, I run a cotton swab around the cap of the grease tube, then around the inside of the barrel.  Cycle the piston a couple of tim

      On the issue of repairs. I swapped some Red Sox tix for a fancy Pilot, the model number not immediately available. Pen is in the office. Anywho, I tried tomrefill it and the internal mechanism, the plunger I think, ornscrew to creat suction, that part is rattling around loose and will not cooperate. Undoubtedly I dropped it or treated it harshly. I live in Massachusetts and I’d love to get it repaired.Does anyone have a suggestion?

      @bhavini If I were you I would not buy a dip-pen. They don't replicate the flow characteristics of fountain pens, and they will work well with some inks that will clog fountain pens. Instead of a dip-pen, I would buy a relatively-inexpensive pen that is easy to clean. E.g. a Parker Frontier and a converter for it. Its nib/feed-unit can be unscrewed from the pen, so cleaning it is very very easy.

      @bhavini I ordered a Sailor Hocoro today, to use for testing. I’ll let you know what it’s like. You can get different nib sizes for it, so maybe more versatile than a glass dip pen.

      @bhavini, I really like the Sailor Hocoro dip pen. It’s inexpensive, easy to clean, and if you get one with a nib that has a feed, you can get quite a few lines of writing before you have to dip again. I have a fude nib, which I use for swatching and line variation while writing.

      What's a relatively cheap tool for a newbie to use to try out new inks, without inking up a pen? I've a bunch of ink samples on their way but I just want to play around with them before I decide on which ones I want to buy more of for writing. I've never used anything except a fountain pen to write with ink before.

      Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket.       Cappuccino should work. Frothy milk also helps to lubricate the nib. But it has to be made by a barista.
