Pelikan M1000 : Om/ob Nib Samples?

Hello everyone,

This is my first post on this forum.

I've been reading you for some time, which helped me make my mind: I bought a TWSBI Mini (w/ EF and M nibs) and just ordered a Pelikan M1000 (w/ M nib).

Depending on how Pelikan's M nib feels, I may want to buy a second nib later.

I didn't find any good samples of OM and OB nibs.

Are these nibs easy to use? I really don't like scratchy nibs and I don't wanna do calligraphy… Just taking notes at work and writing letters.

Thanks

I have M800/M805s with some of the O3B and OBB nibs. They are fairly easy to use and give nice line variation. I would expect the M1000s to be similar, but with more flex, because of the larger nib. By the way, you don't really need flex with oblique nibs; the tip provides the line variation.

I would recommend that you try the pens at a retailer. If you can't find a Pelikan dealer, most Mont Blanc stores have demonstrator pens with all their various nib sizes, including obliques, to try.

I am a big guy with big hands, but for longer writing sessions, I prefer using an M800 over an M1000.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

the pelikan M1000 nib is one of the most beautiful nibs out there--both to write with, and to look at. here's mine, originally an OB nib:

i later decided to turn the OB into a broad stub, and (for me) it wrote even better. here it is, using diamine oxblood:

it's a wonderfully springy, practically flexy, nib. no other pelikan nib is like it (and i have pelikans and nibs in almost all the other sizes as well).

Check out my blog and my pens

I've heard a modern 800 is a nail (I had a vintage '80's-800 go through my hand  a real nice springy nib), so is talking about leopard, where the 1000 is a semi-flex or soft nib, with more flex, so is like talking about a cheetah.

Completely different spotted cats.

Before buying a 1000 look at vintage 400NN pens. They have a real nice nib with some flex. I have a 'flexi' OF that is grand. I have an 140 with a great semi-flex OB. These are 14 C nibs a different alloy than 14 K.

Some folks think the nib of the 1000 is too thin.

I don't know...I do know it is 18 K, so is not as safe a nib as a vintage 18 C or a good 14 C or K nib. Safe in it can bend easier and stay bent.

400NN is a medium large pen, the same size as a 600 but narrower. Holds a ton of ink, more than it looks.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

Awesome! Your B looks stubish! M1000 nib is one of my favorite, very juicy and soft!

Thanks for the advice and the samples !

I'll try these nibs in a shop… Of course I'm gonna spend some time with the M nib first.

You will like the OM/OB

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time
