Homemade Pen Holders!

well bad news, well not sure if it counts as bad news. the schools printer can only run during school hours, and the size of the holder is so big that to print it it would take a day and 30 minutes. i might be able to split the holder up into 4 parts, and print 1 part each day (as someone recommended i think) so it might be done by the end of monday. maybe, just maybe, i can invent something else, but i have to figure that out hehe. like mentioned, i might be able to make some sort of "stacking blocks" to be able to stack mini holders on top of each other, so i only have to print what is needed. i will upload a new pic if a new plan is born.

well, because of the difficulty with designing and printing, im going with a stackable design that if needed i can print more and add to the top... the way i designed it, its still pretty efficient. will upload a pic tommorow.

I like the design. Unfortunate that production is complicated but complication is a part of life.

Excited to see it!

Having a bit too much time on my hands recently, I threw this pen roll together to keep my 'out of rotation' pens in one place. It's fashioned from faux leather and calico with a bit more vinyl stuff for the edging trim and some black elastic to hold the pens in place. It works pretty well, but close inspection reveals my rather tenuous control of the sewing machine! And yes, that is a ballpoint and a rollerball in there to make up the numbers.

Thanks - I'm glad you like it. It's pretty old school alongside your 3D printed stand!

eh. my stand isnt really great right now, im hoping to get my own printrbot plus(home 3d printer)so i can experiment and get the best piece possible. right now were trying to improve our schools makerbot replicator so it can print large stuff without warping as bad as my stand did.

I found this link sometime ago and showed my wife (a very crafty-type of lady): http://www.pentorium...-display-trays/

To my surprise, a few weeks later she presented me with these:

fpn_1364725210__pen_box_-_copy.jpg

As can be seen, she has made these using 2 different size boxes - 2 x DVD gift boxes & 1 x CD gift box. They can be left open for display-type purpose, or the lids put on to keep them clean, dust free, and safe & secure.

The pens are only a couple that she used to take the picture of - my Tropen Scholar, Platinum Plaisir & Parker 45 (that's upside down) - as an example for her blog, but I thought that I'd share it with this group.
