Here you go! I'm a huge fan of the Pilot long-short pens; I think the Pilot pens from the 70s and 80s (and today) are pretty neat :)

Currently using:Too many pens inked to list, I must cut back! :) I can guarantee there are flighters, urushi, and/or Sheaffer Vac-fillers in the mix!!!

I have some Pilot and Namiki pens, all are keepers. Excellent nobs, beautiful pieces of art. My Black Urushi Emperor pen is missing, I don't seem to photographed it yet. Ruud

^ Gorgeous urushi/maki-e pens there, rhk. The only one I have is the 845, which is a delightful pen. Isn't it amazing how the apparent "black plastic" appearance feels different from what you'd expect? It's a subtlety but I notice and appreciate it.

I haven't taken photos of my pens for a long time. I'm long overdue... I should do that rather than regurgitating my older photos, which are spread across older FPN postings. Plus, I've not yet photographed my most prized Pilot possession--(it's a surprise).

The anticipation is killing me.

I like this thread, gave me something to do today. These are my daily users. I had about 10 Pilots in all at one time but I turned into a hardcore dedicated user and got away from collecting. Pilots and Auroras thats all I write with.

  • 1 month later...

I have posted photos and descriptions of some limited editions from my collection and will post more, but here are some pens that while not as "special", I love just as much.

The first three are three of the five pens in the Pilot/Namiki "Impressions" series. These are little guys, roughly the size of Nakaya Piccolos that many of you may be more familiar with. These Impressions are just celluloid, but are really quite nice and are excellent writers. There were also Amber and "Medley" versions in the series; the three I have are the "Ruby", "Emerald" and "Sapphire" editions. One thing I never understood: the Emerald and Sapphire say Namiki on the clip and have no printing on the ring on the cap. The Ruby, which I bought in Tokyo, says Pilot on the clip (not surprising) but on the ring is engraved "Custom LE". Anyone shed light on this?

The big brother on the far right is the "Custom Impressions". It is quite a bit larger than its little brothers, with a Namiki no. 10 18kt nib as opposed to the no. 5 14kt nibs on the Impressions. It is the smoothest writer I have ever used. Its color is several different shades of gray with some green mixed in.

These were very reasonably priced pens. Not urushi of course, but beautiful in their own way and a pleasure to write with.

Please excuse the iPhone shot . . .

I have the ruby and emerald. They're essentially shorter versions of the Custom 74 with what looks like Italian celluloid. Very beautiful, and they write just like the Custom 74 and take the same converters.

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.--Thomas Paine, "The American Crisis", 1776

There's a Japanese company manufacturing celluloid, so I'd guess that's where the celluloid came from.

Nice collection you have there. Was looking for the Pilot/Namiki discussion (finally found it). I have started collecting Namiki FP quite recently. All up, I have around 15. They're fairly expensive but very nice indeed. Hoping to build up my collection and share that with my kids/grand kids one day. They may never need a FP but who cares...its the legend.

Sorry no photo's but Pilot seems to be my brand of choice. I presently own two 78G's (smoothest nibs for 13USD ever!) one medium and one fine and a prized Lucina...my favorite pen!

From metal to maki-e to celluloid—such beautiful pens you guys have!

Here is my small # of Pilots. Not sure I will keep the Heritage 92 (it is fun for the moment), but won't part with the MYU or my new Namiki turtle. (I am rich in gifts given to me!) The nibs on all these are superb.

I love your Sterling Turtle pen! The seaweed trailing behind the turtles is really cool.

I have gravitated toward Pilot pens as a few of my daily writers are Pilots. The 742 FA, the 845, the Kaede, the Heritage 92, and Custom 823. The more I use Pilot fountain pens, the more I like them, for some reasons. All of my Pilot pens are well put together with precision manufacturing.

Great to see many others are also enjoying their Pilot pens.

My Pilot pens. All have been inked and used at one time. Currently using the Vanishing Point for everyday writing.

When the pupil is ready, the teacher will come.

I have three Pilot Vanishing Points; they are all I write with now. The latest addition is the blue VP with a fine point nib. I'm not sure how I'm going to looked the fine point. Sharp as a razor.post-48448-0-13232400-1364898959.jpg

A Pilot Falcon 742 compared to a Sailor KOP.

Yes, the Falcon has a slightly longer barrel, though the KOP comes with the gigantic NIB. I cannot really cope with the Pilot's flex and will sell it (I'm still not qualified here to do so, one more reason to add another post to the required amount to sell in the classified section ;-)

Cheers,

Tom

(sorry for the quality of the pic)

For sale: M625 red/silver, P395 gold, Delta Fellini.
