Looking For The Ideal Red Pen

Recommended Posts

Was wondering if I could pick your brains about a possible candidate:

1) Red

2) gold trimmings

3) gold nib/duo tone

4) Screw caps are okay, since I noticed most cap on pens tend to be in the lower cost realm ( not saying I want an extravagantly priced one )

5) Spring loaded clip if possible. I know this isn't that common either, though I like how it's stronger/flexible compared to the traditional ones.

Can be from any make...east, west, in between.

So far I've had my eye on the M600 ruby red limited edition( I have the regular blue m600), but would like to hear what suggestions you fellow fpn-ers have

Regards

Justin

Some ideas.

In the darker red tones, the OMAS old style Paragon or Milord.

From Waterman, the CF (far left), Preface (third from right) or Gentleman (second from right)

or maybe a Waterman 100 Year pen in Red.

or a Sterling silver with Red Enamel Ferrari da Varese Yesterday (far right):

or Savant:

Or maybe a Montegrappa Symphony (closed upper pen) or Emblema (open lower pen)

From Germany there is the GvFC Guillochè (upper pen) or the Terracotta Intuition (middle pen):

From England there is the Conway Stewart Red Stardust color, seen here on a "58".

Justin, you're ready to step up to a red Nakaya Long Writer.

You'll have to special order it though (four to six month wait) since the red doesn't normally come with a clip.

Alternatively, consider the red Decapod.

I always get a kick out of these "no affiliation" notations when it's blatantly obvious the poster has absolutely nothing to do with the brand, company, etc. beyond being a customer. It must be a feel-good/feel-important thing. So I'll note up front that nothing I write here on this forum is influenced by any financial-gain motivation.

That is an amazing pen, I'm gonna look into it!

I like the Visconti Alchemy.

Fountain pens are like weapons. They just make your pocket bleed so much.

thanks for the suggestions so far everyone.

Jar > starting with your second picture, can I ask what pen is the 3rd and 4th from the left ? The blues are mesmerizing, and though I already have two blue pens they are highly tempting . I particularly liked the Montegrappas you suggested, I've never looked much into the Italian pens, but that combination of red/silver and that nib is just a winner.

And yes, I've had my eye on the GvFC Intuition Terracota for awhile now..

I think the Conway Stewart was a limited edition , yes ? Think the price would be in the heavens by now.

Certainly have my eye on the montegrappas, and those blue pens you have...

Felix, I've seen some great Nakaya's along the way, as well as their nibs. I fancy the Nakaya Dorsal Fin Aka Tamenuri !

Bugmd, could we get a close up on that nib ?

Consider also the Montegrappa Espressione.

I prefer the older style to the new one and because it's been replace you may find a deal available.

I have mine filled and in rotation now but thinking about changing pens. The two blue pens in that picture are a Waterman Laureat (left most and from 90s) and a Waterman Phileas (from late 90s early 2000S)

Nope, it was a regular edition and I think the color is still available on several models and all their bespoke pens. Drop Mary a line and she can tell you the current status.

Thanks guys definitely looking up the options suggested. Hard with the Photoshop around there days to actually tell what the red looks like. Will post it up if I manage to find my ideal one. Kinda like the pelikan fire but it's a bit out of my budget :-D

Jar will have to confirm his own pens, but I believe that the pens are a Perspective and a Phileas, respectively.

Saw them going for around 300USD. I read a review of it here, the red is really difficult to portray correctly...the dark red with marbly swirls...mmmm. On the shopping list. thanks

thumbup.gif choice. Too bad the price is a bit out of my range for now..500USD would be the furthest I can go for now. Will etch the suggestion in my mind though ! Bidding on an old Conway Stewart now

That's a nice looking pen -- what is it?

Hi Ruth, kind of you to say something nice about this little pen. It is a Platignum Silverline. I was at school in the UK during the '60s and this was the kind of pen everybody had - we weren't allowed to use anything but fountain pens and these were widely available and quite inexpensive. Your comment inspired my to ink it this afternoon, probably the fist time that it has seen any action in forty years. Distinctly scratchy I'm afraid although whether this reflects its humble origins or scholastic abuse I really cannot say.
