German? Pen From The 50S

Hi

One of my colleagues is also a FP-writer. He always uses a Waterman Expert. Recently he was writing with an old Parker, the Waterman send in for repairs. I did not knoe he had more FPs, and while chatting he told me about an old pen his father gave him when he was in school. He send me a couple of pics, and I have seen it recently. Nice pen, but I would not know what brand it is.

Can someone help out?

There is a name on the barrel: Marvel.

He made a drawing of the logo on the nib.

He got the pen as a boy, that would date the pen late 50s, perhaps early 60s. He did not know exactly when he got it.

It was purchased in the Netherlands. Chances are it is German.

Marvel could be the brand, but it is not known to me.

It looks celluloid, but there is no odour.

See attached pics.

I had a Marvel 'self filler' that was made in Austria, it was a crude piston filler, that I unfortunately discovered the hard way was made from celluloid (*poof* flaming pen of doom!)

It had resembled an Eagle twist filler and I was heating it to remove the section to put a new sac in it (so I thought). I had heard they were the 'same' pens, I was wrong. As I recall, I didn't even need to get it very hot before I got flames, apparently there was a lot of 'nitro' in that 'cellulose' :roflmho:

Hi, Piembi :clap1: PM me?

14 K/585 gold Degussa nib, many German pen companies made pens for Export. Osmia exported, along with the then well made Reform. Osmia had a good presence in the Netherlands, under other names like Akkermann with sales to various stores.

Thanks to all about this information.

I had the opportunity to write with this pen for a few words today, and it appears to be reasonably flexy. With littele pressure I got from fine to 1 mm. Alas writing with a flex pen is not among my skills.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time
