I tried to get the picture a little dark aswell.. but I made a terrible job of the photo - I'm not really satisfied. Next time I will spend more energy on arranging and lightning. And bring out the tripod.

Nice photo! Nicer pens! Black is always in style.

Thank you Ethernautrix. As an amateuro photographer, I always struggle with a few things like:

  • Light and contrast. Mixing blac, white, metal and generally shiny things makes pen photography hard
  • The perspective is sometimes cool, but not here. I need a world without ... things getting smaller when far away. At least today. :)
  • Dust and dirt. It's soooo boring to photoshop away the unwanted. Can't the world just be free of faults?

Black is always the old and new black. Back in Blackety-Black Black.

What is your photo setup at the moment? I like to play with natural light and a polarising filter to remove the reflections from the nibs.

It varies. For this photo, I placed the pens in their box on a table, put two flashes (Nikon SB-800) on either size pointed towards my ceiling and triggered them using the built in flash of my Nikon using CLS and full auto. I then leaned over the box and snapped away.

I do however have other picture setups aswell - with studio lights, light tents and other stuff, and I do like to play with natural light. This usually requires me to actually bring out the tripod tho... :)
