Custom Green Marble Acrylic Fountain Pen

Recommended Posts

This is the first pen I've made with an exposed clip ring. I think I like it, but I'd also like to add a band to the cap and/or lower barrel. I've also tried a new shape for the section with a small diameter at the end and a deep waist.

Specifics:

Length capped 6"

Posted 6 1/2"

Uncapped 5 1/4"

Weight 28 grams

Cap diameter 17mm

Barrel diameter 15mm

Rhodium-plated clip

Cartridge/converter

Very nice work Robert, I like the way furniture breaks up the material on a pen.

By the way, Happpy belated Birthday, I hope you enjoyed yourself. Have many more healthy and happy ones in the future clap1.gif

Woo! Gorgeous! I LOVE green!

Beautiful finish, and I love the choice of black front section. Looks great!

Ken

Thanks Ken. I love this color green too, but green's not a color I usually favor. This one leans a little toward olive, and the swirls of black in it really add pizzazz.

Hey, David, thank you. Had a great birthday--kayaked in the afternoon and had an amazing chicken cacciatore at my favorite Italian restaurant.

I like it, Robert! Very nice colors in the material - my favorite color  .

I do like an exposed clip ring when the material calls for it. I try to expose the ring whenever I can.

Thanks Lyle. Yep, I agree, and I think the exposed ring looks especially good with matching band low on the cap.

Wow! that's one jazzy looking, yet elegant pen....like the exposed cap ring...gives a little detail to the pen....

Green is my favorite color of all time. That looks like the North-lights and emeralds all in one.

Do not let old pens lay around in a drawer, get them working and give them to a new fountain pen user.

Not normally my color either, but I love it anyway, truly. A very vibrant green, and a sizeable, hefty pen. I like the section too. Though shortish it's longer than the one on my Delta Scrigno, which I feel is a bit too short. Great job!

I may not have been much help, but I DID bump your thread up to the top.

Hello

In my opinion you have made a beautiful pen.

Do you sell them?

Technically speaking, can you please explain how do you make the part of the barrel that screws? I mean how can one achieve that result? Because I haven't still understand how this can be done.

Thanks in advance;

Best Regards

The way I make one of these barrels is as follows:

  1. Put a rod in the lathe chuck.
  2. Driil a hole down the middle for the cartridge convertor.
  3. Drill a tapping drill size for the section thread for as far as necessary (this operation may be the same as the operation above).
  4. Thread the barrel-section thread with a tap.
  5. Turn the outside of the barrel down to size.
  6. Turn the outside of the barrel-cap thread area to size (may be part of the operation above).
  7. Thread the cap-barrel thread with a die.
  8. Polish.
  9. Part the barrel off from the rest of the rod, turn the barrel around and put it in the chuck.
  10. Finish the barrel finial end.
  11. Final polish & finish.

Hope this helps,

Richard.

Hello

Thank you for your reply. Together with your explanation and a youtube video I now understand how these sections are made. I still think that it requires a lot of skill to get the right size of the section. Perhaps one day I'll buy the equipment and try out making some pens, for the moment I only admire then. Talking of admiring I think you have beautiful pens. However I was a bit surprised to find that a customised pen is a bit out of my range.

Best Regards

Thanks, Doc. I used 7/16 x 20 threads on a final tenon.

I have to agree with all the other posters who've said how gorgeous this pen looks

May I ask your source for the blank(s)? The marbling is really well done IMO.

Thank you! The blank is from Exotic Blanks. It's a sleeper--you wouldn't guess it could turn out so well. It's called simply Duo Green and Black:
