48 Pen Portfolio By Menash

Has anyone got one of these 48-pen leather cases? http://www.penfoliobymenash.com/index.html

I love the clever design with the thin elastic retainers that don't obscure half the pen and only require the barrel to be inserted! The elastics can also be tightened or loosened to allow secure holding for pens of different thicknesses and the interior padding is just the right colour to showcase the pens. I'm considering getting one but I'm somewhat UNDERwhelmed by the photos of such a luxury item on the vendor's site! When I buy quality I need to see the quality in hi-res photo form or in person otherwise I'm just not sold.

I have another concern about these cases, despite their being apparently raved about by several cognoscenti, and that is that they do not seem to be very padded - I just can't tell properly from the photos on the site!

I'm not in a desperate hurry but I have outgrown my 24-pen case and intend to locate a solution soon-ish. The case I have is very nicely padded soft leather and they do produce a 48 pen version but I'm hoping to be re-assured regarding the Menash as I DO love the design features of it!

Anyone got one who could comment?

Thanks in advance.

Hmmmm - many views no replies. This is telling me :eureka: :headsmack: that I should save the OTT purchase price of this case and adapt / make do with the one available in UK! :headsmack:

I've been considering buying one of Menash's 48 pen cases, I also like that it has two adjustable straps and it they both hold the barrel not the cap. That the straps are thin so it's easy to view the pens within is a nice bonus. I haven't bought one yet, so I have no first hand experience to offer; however, the cases are padded:

The pens rest against a padded felt interior and are protected by a cushioned flap. It is the softest interior I’ve ever felt in a pen case and I don’t know why others don’t use the same design.

As for whether or not it's worth paying $200+ for a pen case, well I guess that would depend on the value of the pens it will be holding and protecting.

Options include; A5 for 10 or 20 Pens and A4 for 20 or 40 pens, single elastic through slots to acomodate Pens with various widths. (Image - A4/20 Pens)

My concern was not for the padded interior but for whether or not the exterior cover of the case were padded, and if so, to what degree. The 24 pen case I have at present has a very well padded cover, front and back, and that, combined with the stiff skeleton underneath the padding, gives me a pleasant sense of the protection I am getting for my pens. It's not sufficient for me that such a case be of the highest manufacturing- and materials- quality if it is simply a solid piece of leather on the exterior cover. All the more so if a seller wants a premium price for their product!

Have you tried contacting him directly and asking these same questions?

Yes, awaiting reply. However I think I've answered my own question really. Although I have about £3000 worth of pens to keep in it, I am happy for my case to be 'good enough'. i.e. it doesnt have to cost that much (about $300 with UK import duty and VAT and handling charges) that I feel that I have spent around $200 too much, which is a sum that would buy me at least one of my outstanding grail pens! :happyberet:
