Photo of Queen Elizabeth II working at her office aboard Royal train near Darlington on 7th May 2002 (courtesy MSN India). The pen she is using looks like either Parker Duofold or Pelikan Souveran.

Certainly looks like a Pelikan though I am not sure if it is a fountain pen, the section end does not look like it has a nib. I know she is still using her burgundy 51 with gold filled cap as well, perhaps she leaves that one at Buckingham Palace.

Oh yes, God bless her on her Jubilee. A remarkable woman I feel.

All the best.

To confirm the first two responses, yeah, it sure looks like a Pelikan, but not a FP. To me.

I'd say a Souverän but not a FP. The black nob up top (like on our FP piston nobs) on a Duofold is somewhat longer and thinner, more tapered. My guess, an R600.

Once upon a time, it was advertised that the "Palace" only used Parker Pens. Probably most specifically those made in England.

I've been collecting pens for about 45 years and have read about the Queen and her choice of writing instruments. I'd be surprised if the pen was a Pelikan. But did you get a look at that tiny desk the most powerful woman in the British Empire is working at. . . and looking at a dull wall! ! ! Must be a HOTEL!

She's on a train.

She might be on a train, but is that any kind of excuse for not using a FP? (Actually, I'm in awe of that massive, baroque looking phone thing behind her....)

I cannot place the pen. I have seen film footage of HRH The Prince of Wales using a .985 silver Mont Blanc 149. Her Majesty I understand uses a special non fading ink in her pens for state papers.

will it be possible for someone to throw some light on this ink? one of our friends here had written to the palace enquiring about her ink but was declined.

I have twice seen it written with the description "a special ink" only.

That was in reply to FPFan saying it looked like she was in a hotel.

Never mind the fountain pen - look at the Queen's posture! Now THAT's good posture.

And that was taken 10 years ago...not sure how old HRH is, but she must have been at least in her mid 70's.
