found a couple over on the bay new at $100.. Do they write as nice as they look?

when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?

The only one I've ever used was blocked up, when I used it dipped it was a bit anonymous to use, dry and firm. M nib.

In the flesh, they are quite small, thin pens if that floats your boat.

Great design but on the small (especially thin) side. I have a couple, both with medium nibs, that are very good starters and rather dry.

I like it a lot, but since it was my first "real" pen many years ago, I might be slightly biased.

The cap retaining ring on mine eventually wore out and since I cannot find a replacement ring, I'm currently using my wife's 50.

What I like most about the Parker 50, is the fact that it is a fairly slender pen with a very even and smooth section.

I agree with the "thin" and "dry" writing votes.

I have three of the 4 colors.

Sexy looking pen that IF it wrote wetter I would learn to overlook its thinness.

Mine writes very well, at least with the Parker cartdiges I've use in it (lacking a converter); it is a medium, and possibly the smoothest pen I have.

A few months ago a friend asked me to find one for him to replace one he has been using since he bought it new. The feed had failed. I eventually bought a donor pen for parts and a new one for him. The donor provided a feed for his pen and a clip for another pen. I had never seriously considered this pen for myself, but after getting the feel of it and writing with it I have decided to do a review of them which I will be publishing here in the near future. They are very representative of the era in which they were made. I like the perfect juiciness of the nib, neither dry nor too wet. I like the fact that you can have a fine and a medium, or medium and broad, nib on the same pen. For the purposes of the review I am working on I have examples of the black TX, the stainless flighter and a bronze one. The only nib combination I do not have access to is a VF/F. The publication date of my review is predicated upon completion of some design work I am currently engaged in, but I will try to find this thread again and put a link in for it, when I am done.

Bronze?

I didn't know that they came in bronze.

Can you post a photo?

None of these pens are mine. I will be including photos, that have been or will be made by the owner, of all the examples I have access to, in my review. I merely acquired and tested these pens for my friend. During my search for these pens I have seen a number of interesting variants, including a stainless with a chrome feathered arrow clip and a black one with bronze nib and gold trim. The bronze one I will be including has a F/M nib. I believe that there are probably six variants of this particular pen. The bronze is the rarest and the bicolour ones the last made.

I really like the look of the Falcon 50, it reminds me of the T-1 but at a reduced price. The two I have are not my favorites, mostly due to how slim they are. Even a 51 feels small in my bear paw hands. If one likes the feel of a Vac Maxima or any other OS pen then this one may not be for you as a daily user.

My only problem with these pens is that they seem prone to ink clotting just below the slit, as flushing is a lot more involved than one expects. When thoroughly flushed, they seem damp enough in the writing. Slender, yes, but that's only a problem on a subjective basis.

IF a "bronze" model exists, you'll need to inform parkercollector.com.

He only lists the four: the Gold filled Signet, Flighter, Matt Brown, and Matt Black.

As with most Parker pens, parts can get swapped either for preference or repair/replacement.

As an example, my Signet has the brown nib/section like my Matt Brown pen. I doubt that this is a new model, but may just have been an attempt to use up available parts.

I have spoken to my friend and we have decided that the "bronze" one is actually a matt brown that has been sanded down. You are likely correct about the using up of parts. I will PM you shortly with some photos. I do not want to put them up here as a general post because I did not make these pictures and do not want to risk offending the person who did.

I have one matt brown Falcon that writes dry with a fine nib. Mind you I currently have Parker Penman Ebony ink in it, so that might be one reason for the dry writing.

I'm waiting for another one, but have a feeling that it will have a medium nib.

I like the look of the Falcon and regretted parting with my original one, so I replaced it. Sadly, I also parted with the original brown box, and don't have a box for it at all now.

I thought I'd post a picture of my three Falcons.

adamon and I seem to have GT (gold trim) Flighters. The clip tag on mine says "Fine" on the opposite side.

The Flighter at http://www.parkerpen...t/parker50.html is CT (chrome trimmed) and has a shorter clip with feathers!

I also seem to have a Signet that someone switched a brown nib/section into. (At least it differs from adamon's above.)

Yours is correct. The Golden Falcon should have a brown nib section.

Incidently, there is also a gold-plated model with an engraved lattice patterned cap and barrel which, I believe, was sold exclusively by W.H. Smiths in the U.K.

Thanks for your comments Glenn.

Would have liked to reply sooner but half term and all that stuff.

I guess one day, they may be available.

After all, I am only the temporary custodians of them.

Paul.
