Lamy Safari Nib Storage

Ethereal Winter Wind

Recommended Posts

Hey,

After now collecting a sizable number of Lamy Safari, I have accumulated a number of spare nibs. I'm wondering how you guys store your spare nibs? I remember someone once posting up a case with nibs.

Regards

I have a rather large collection on ink sample vials and I use one vial per nib, mark the outside with a strip of masking or blue painter's tape and store them by nib type (F, M, B, 1.1 and so on) in extra felted pen slots. They're easy to see and the marking is easy to read. Works for me.

I have one of those common plastic subdivided drawer inserts and the nibs seem safe in one of the smaller partitions.

+1 on keping them in empty sample vials. When I ordered a spare from Goulet Pens that is how they sent it. They had also placed it in a small haggis that went inside. It works great.

What about using one of those medication pill containers? Most of them have 7 compartments.

Does haggis mean the same thing in the united states as everywhere else?

I live in the USA but his use of this term has me confused too - didn't know there was a source of sheep's stomachs small enough to fit in an ink sample vial.... A pudding seems a messy way to store nibs.... :P Maybe he was referring to a small plastic bag? I have never heard them referred to as "haggis" though so I dunno!

Right now I don't have enough spare ink sample vials to use for storage of my extra nibs (just dip pen and Estie nibs, no Safari nibs) but that seems like a good way of keeping them organized, labeled and safe. Mine are just in plastic bags right now....

I like your idea of using the J Herbin cartridge tin, too, brunico:

I don't use cartridges, but maybe buying a set would be worth it just for the tin! (And this could be an excuse to try out one of the J Herbin roller ball pens just so that I will have a use for the cartridges... lol Doesn't take much to enable me. )

In the little styrene snap lid box with the foam and slotted card stock inserts that Lamy ships them in. Each one holds five nibs but with a pen knife one could easily add a few more slots.

I simply use the Lamy box as well.

Anybody who wants a Lamy box can have one free. Just add it to the notes section and while supplies last. I have been giving them away with nibs for quite some time.

I have three spare Lamy nibs and store them in an ink sample vial. To keep them from rattling around, I put a piece of foam on the bottom of the vial, and one on top of the nibs.

My humble pen collection: Lamy Safari F (Charcoal), Kaweco Ice Sport F (Red), Pilot Prera M (Slate Blue), TWSBI Diamond 540 F (Clear), Noodler's Konrad Flex (Red Mesa Tortoise)

Stupid autocorrect. :headsmack: That's what I get for thinking I had proofread the whole thing. I was in fact talking about a baggie.

That's exactly what I was looking for/seen in a picture once. Of all the lamy nibs that I have had shipped to me I've never received any in this box. Do you know where I could get some?

I would buy a nib just for the box from isellpens but shipping seems to come to 40$USD for Australia...

I believe these boxes came from The Writing Desk together with a number of nibs I ordered.

In Australia you could perhaps try to contact Joe from Antipodeco, although it seems that he has stopped selling Lamy pens.

That is only an estimate and not the final shipping cost. You can also email me.

Thats generous of you Todd! I know I ordered a few lamy nibs from the Goulets the other week and they sent them in a Lamy box as well. I thought it was pretty neat since I had been ordering them from other sources before the Goulets started carrying them, and I had never seen one.

Thank you, thank you! I needed a good laugh.

But back on topic I use old Altoids boxes. They come in very pretty colors too.

Autocorrect does tend to suggest some crazy words, doesn't it? A simple typo can lead to some very odd suggestions. I figured it was a mistake - couldn't quite picture anyone sticking a nib in haggis, unless it was some kind of rather dangerous party prize... :D
