Size Comparison Request

Recommended Posts

So, I have searched this forum (and the whole board, really) for two days and I can't find a pictorial comparison between the above three models (m6xx, m8xx, TWSBI). I am graduating with my Master's in Psychology in a month, and I want to get myself a nice grad present. However, all I have is a TWSBI, and I love the size. I don't have a B&M close to me that carries the m8xx line, so I'm wondering if anyone who has all three would mind taking a pic and throwing it on here for me to actually see them side-by-side.

I have read the specs, but I want to see how they compare in size. I know the weight is in different places for the m8xx and the m60x is significantly lighter, but I wanna see. Y'know?

I would be very grateful for any help!

Thanks, all!

PD

Well I have a M605 but not an M805. I can compare my M605 with my TWSBI 540 in a minute I will snap some pictures for you.

you can look here: http://www.inknouveau.com/search?updated-max=2012-02-26T07:00:00-05:00&max-results=5&start=10&by-date=false

for a comparision of the m600 and m800.

edit:

judging by what you've said It seems like the M805 is more suitable for you, if you like the heft of the TWSBI, By weight the M605 is considerably lighter than the 805 because the 8xx and 1xxx use brass for the piston mechanism.

I would believe the M8xx is similar in size and weight to the twsbi

Wow, thank you SO much! I didn't realize how much smaller the m6xx was! The section girth looks pretty close - that was my biggest desire to see. I was pretty sure that I wanted the m8xx, but now I'm not so sure -the section on the m8xx is even larger.

(EDITED to add: Especially now that I've found a M605 in BLACK!!! Shoot. Didn't think I'd ever have a grail pen.)

I once had a Ratnamson Jumbo eyedropper that was just too big for me to use...I'm nervous that the m8xx would be like that...but i like the heavier pen, b/c I don't post my pens. Quite torn, really. I see I'm not the only one, though, given the recent 6 v 8 post...

Thanks again!

Great pix Draless!!! It's amazing how a pix really means a thousand words in this case.

Glad I could help!

If you look at the inknouveau.com comparision that Brian did, the M8xx is really slightly larger than the M6xx, and the grip section is basically almost the same. It seems to be that the TWSBI 540 is equal to the M8xx especially in size, and if you don't post your pen the weight of the M8xx may suit you better.

Hmmm...thanks for that. Now I'm thoroughly conflicted ;)

Anyone have a TWSBI and an M8xx they could post comparison shots for me?

Thanks again, Draless. I really do appreciate it!

You have a Master's in Psychology - of course you're thoroughly conflicted! ;) :P

I'll do you one better than that! From top to bottom: Pelikan M600, TWSBI Diamond 540, Pelikan M800:

Ah! That's it! Between Draless's photos and suggestions, and these, mcnoodle, I'm sold. Pennies are going to the M805 on nichepens.co.uk.

Amazing, thanks all!

(and mcnoodle, in response to your assertion that I'm crazy, I give you this:  :bawl: )

Just a quick note: In my hand the M800 feels quite a bit larger than the TWSBI. It must be the larger diameter of the section that makes all the difference, because in my hand the M600 and TWSBI feel very similar to each other whereas the TWSBI and M800 feel different. I can write with both the M600 and TWSBI comfortably for long stretches at a time. I can write comfortably with the M800 as well, but I am always aware that it is just a little larger. It does not fit my hand quite as seamlessly as the other two.

Yeah, I'm wondering about that - I like the heavier weight (b/c I don't post, so I like some heft) but my hand is not a meat hook by any stretch. I think I'm gonna go to my B&M and see if I like the M600 they have there before I make any hard and fast decisions. (See? Totally conflicted. Freaking parents. ;) )

Well, I had quite a normal childhood, loving family and all. The M800 still feels larger in my hand. I'm thinking it could just be the size of the pen that is the issue, but what do I know? :P

What I'm trying to say is that going to a B&M store and trying them out in person is the best idea. :)

Those pictures of the M805 and comparison look great. With Pelikans there are so many options, one reason I had gone with the M605 was the 14k nib and the many options to purchase pre-ground nibs with a wide variety from Richard Binder and others

  • 1 month later...

Great post.

This helped me to finally decide on placing my order for an M600. Actually I just got the order placed a few minutes ago. I did not realize that the body of the M600 and M800 were so close to each other in size.

I have often thought that my TWSBI 540 was a little on the bulky side (length wise) and was not sure if the smaller size of the M600 was going to be too small. However the pictures show that the M600 will likely be the exact size I have been wanting in a fountain pen.

Thanks for the pictures.

that TWSBI nib and section is small for a big pen

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing
