Pelikan M200

Two quick photos of a couple of my M200 pens. From the left, modern M200 Green Marbled (EF nib), old style M200 Silver Marbled (F nib) and old style M200 Blue Marbled (M nib). I have a few more M200 pens, but these are the ones I love the best.

The M200 Green Marbled pen was purchased from Richard's Pens in 2009 and was the first fountain pen I'd owned since the 1970's vintage Sheaffer student pen I'd used in high school and college and then lost somewhere along the way. I first had a F nib in it, but it was too fat for my taste, so I bought an additional EF nib that I currently use in it. This pen is perpetually inked with Noodler's Black.

The old style M200 blue marbled pen was bought from another FPN member a few months ago. Its M nib writes more like a modern M200 F nib and is stiff just like a modern M200 nib. The pen is in mint condition and it writes very nicely with Pelikan Edelstein Topaz.

I received the NOS M200 silver marbled pen from an eBay seller in Germany this morning and inked it up with Diamine Grey; I was pleasantly surprised at the springiness of the nib. That nib writes more like the vintage 140/400 nibs from the 1950's than it does the modern stiff M200 nib. Sometimes you just get lucky.

Great pictures and they look beautiful  I have the modern M200 Green Marbled too. I bought it 3 weeks ago but still didnt ink it. M Nib. I guess I should try it soon before I have the time to change the Nib if I find it too fat.

As you can see my M200 green marbled is one of my favorite pens and is currently in pole position.

When this pen arrived by mail and I opened the case up I thought I had been ripped off. The pen was so light and delicate (I thought) - turns out that this pen is extremely well engineered and a true classic.

I've the same modern one and find that the M nib isn't too wide at all. Just finished using Sheaffer Skrip Blue-Black in it and plan ESSRI iron-gall next - when it's delivered!

I love the M200, but the nib can never be too fat! I have a BB and wish it was even fatter!

Good news I'm happy to hear that.

Hello to Everyone!

I too have a new style M200. Always heard & hear the debates on differences between new style & old style M200's.

As the author "jgrasty" has both of them, dear jgrasty wouldnt you quote the differences between the new & the old M200's ?

Edited to add:- Is there any difference in the barrel material between old & new style M200's?

Thanks & regards,

Arvind.

The material for the barrel appears to be the same for both old and new style. The other differences are easily seen in the photos, but the major differences are the end cap and trim bands on the cap and piston knob.

I think the green pen is made in W. GERMANY (which should be the old style M200) with one gold rim on the cap and one on the filling knob

All three of my pens, both modern and old style, say "Pelikan" and "Germany" on the cap band, so I'm guessing that all three were made after Germany unified.
