Hi from another newbe,

I bought my lapis in 1995 and paid $350 for it. I don't know if that was retail or not. In 1996 the was a lapis and gold that sold for $275(lapis cap and gold body). The jade was from 1997 and sold for $336. Again, I don't know if those are retail prices.

You have a Cross Townsend Ballpoint pen in the Lapis finish. Townsends are the top of line pens made by Cross and the Lapis and Jade finishes were the most expensive for the Townsend line of pens. I have an old pen catelog from 1999 which lists the following retail prices for the Lapis finishes on the Townsend line- Fountain pen - $400 ; Select tip (Roller Ball) - $325 Ballpoint - $ 250 and Pencil $250. The catelog description describes the Lapis finish as follows:

"Lapis Lazuli is a precious gemstone discovered nearly 6000 years ago and obtained from mines in Badakshan, Afghanistan. Ultra fine particles of genuine Lapis stone ae applied to each writing instrument's brass shell, with solid 22kt gold flakes suspended in the finish"

The Jade and Lapis finishes have been out production for about 10 years or so and are highly sought after by collectors, especially in the Lapis finish. Collectors love to have the original box which you have and it adds to the value of the pen.

Regards

Just curious, where is the "792" located?

It's the Ballpoint model#, on the white label at the lower edge of the box. Also says "Made in USA with US german parts $250".

I have the same pen, still in the box. It's very pretty and nice, but I'm not crazy about BPs, and this one is heavy. I do use my Townsend Sienna FP (also heavy).
