What a great web site! Thank you. I was browsing or should I say re-browsing the forum for something specific regarding old MB's and just happend upon this post. It answered my question, and opened up a door for another acquisition to my exploding collection!

Thanks again.

Best regards,

Scrog

Hi Scrog,

thanks for the complement on the website. There you find the pens of some very famous German collectors. Unfortunately, most pens shown there do not belong to my collection.

Hi Edgar Allan Bo,

yes, the Rosenkavalier is a great, and extremely rare pen :notworthy1: So far, I have only seen the 124E and the 72 E (see: http://fountainpen.de/old-meisterstueck-extra.htm ).

Best regards

Michael

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi there ! Long time busy could not stop here...

I am not sure these pens are really rare but since I had never saw them before I thought it would be worth putting the images here, for me recent acquisitions anyway.

4 F Lever Filler Black, nib says: Montblanc 4

6 EF Lever Filler, Woodgrain although it looks more as a red ripple, nib says: Montblanc 6

6 F ED Black nib says: 14 Carat 6 This is a real ED not a safety. It holds the ink very well and writes smooth, once you start writing with it you do not want to leave it anymore.

I have only see (the first two) in books…

Regards

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I find the silver-ringed 1950s 149 and the L139 G enchanting. However Soot, that L129 G of yours is simply beautiful :clap1: Would love to see a picture from someone who had all three.

Jeremy, another fabulous pen to add to that facintating collection of yours. Great photo.

hmm ... I'm not sure whether this pen would fit to this topic ... it's a rare pen ... but not an old one.

Here is the photo of the 80 years anniversary pen ... it's a Montblanc 164 with a special imprint. The pen is rare because it was only given to Montblanc employees but never sold officially. The only thing special about this pen is the imprint "1908 ... Montblanc ... 1988".

I like the imprint ... because it's somewhat different as the founding year is 1908.

It's a pitty that the imprint is in such a poor condition :(

Why own such nice things if not to use them? I only collect items that use such as Montblanc Pens which I've heard it may affect the value by 10% to use them however if the pen is rare and increasing in value that will matter very little. Enjoy your pens, at worst you may need to put a new nib on the fountain pens as they tend to form to the writers style. Again: so what and let the new buyer close their nib style, I for one enjoy a Double Broad Nib asit writes like silk with good ink.

Marc

I recently purchased the Collodi Writer's set which I believe Montblanc seriously screwed up on production and are doing damage control by stating it was intentional. They produced the normal number of full number stand alone pens. They claimed they "...hand packed 100 sets for their best customes..." then proceeded to randomly distribute them to their dealers. I have no desire to throw my dealer under the bus as they've always been very good to me however I did manage to pick up a set which the box is numbered 47 of 100 while the pens are all matched number 47 out of (the total quantity manufactured for each Pen, Fountain Pen & Pencil which is in the thousands).

Montblanc tried to say this was intentional as a "new way of distributing" which they have never done before and have already announced to all their dealers they're switching back to the way they serialized their pen sets and matching boxes since 1992.

Does anyone have any comments on this and know whether or not this set will be worth a considerable amount of money to the right collectors? This is why I posted this in this section, the idea that the Collodi (47/100) set may have considerable higher value. I'd like to hear from the opinions of others especially other who own any of these sets 0 through 100 or otherwise. http://www.montblanc-collodi.com/

Thx

That's stunning...I've been trying to find a way to make my red mottled hard rubber Goldfink pen from Tom look like that exactly. Congrats on this beautiful pen. Can you post photos of it next to other pens like a 146 or 149 so we can gauge it's size?

Use it in good health.

cheers

That is fantastic! Thanks for the comparison, it really helps to understand the scale of the pens in relation to each other.

Use it in good health.
