I was very pleasantly surprised when I tried it too. There have been some excellent reviews of the burgundy and wine-coloured inks so I thought I would try this one.

I would expect the scans to be pretty accurate because although the Epson V600 is a year or so old, it is placed at the top of the current Epson consumer range. Its V700/V750 big brother is aimed at the professional. Although the scans were very good straight out of the box, I bought an IT8 Colour Target from Kodak to calibrate it. They are extremely colour accurate photographs covered in little boxes that you scan and because the colours are standardised, the scanner knows exactly what they are supposed to be. I can imagine the scanner being told "No, *that* is Syrah, there, the little box in the middle. Don't just make it up, you nebbish!"

This ink looks superb - great review and technique. Particularly love the shading! Just ordered myself a bottle B)

From looking at Diamine's palette, my girlfriend chose this ink as her favorite..

Looks like it has beautiful shading. I'll order a bottle for me aswell :clap1:

I like the ink a lot and usually it's the first ink I put into a pen (vintage or modern), but - as usual - the appearance differs quite a bit from pen to pen.

Greetings,

Michael

Nice review and ice ink. One of my favourite D's, methinks.

One of my favorite colors, but has slight start up issues in my Twisbi 1.1 stub sometimes. I will miss the first part of a letter at the start of a new sentence. I have not had the problem with my other favorite ink. That aside I do use this color a lot.

Thank you for the review, Daniel.

I really like this ink, too. I use it in my Lamy 2000; my Lamy has an EF nib and Diamine Syrah shades nicely even with this size of nib. Love the combination of the black pen with the red ink, as well.

I am not sure when Lamy changed their nib grade sizes to match those of other Western pen makers, so my pen may have been made when Lamy nib sizes were slightly wider than those of most Western nibs of the same sizes, but even if its nib is closer to Fine, I am impressed that the ink still shades nicely with narrower nibs. Lovely stuff!

Great review for an ink already on my radar, thank you!

A friend, Sleepycat here on the forum, just sent me a sample of Syrah and I'd wondered how it compared to Amaranth which I've been using for a while. Appreciate your observations in this area as well. :)

Thank you. I too like this ink though I wouldn't have tried it had I not received it as a gift. Now, it is among my frequent rotations (since it is a lipstick color).

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I actually ordered some of this this morning to use when I write notes for my wife. Reading your review, I'm particularly happy with my choice.

I have two ink boxes created for me by Tony last year and Syrah is in the "A" box. It is very easy on the eye and well behaved.

very good review of an interesting ink  Looks close to the older MB Bordeaux ink
