The shading is pretty subtle, not distracting.

A simple old pen, like this creaky scratched-up Waterman's 502, does the necessary.

This is probably my favorite ink, for the color and its free flowing properties (in my experience, at least).

With a wet medium nib on absorbent paper, I don't get shading but on Clairefontaine with an average-wetness fine nib I get the subtle shading.

Seems that way.

I discarded the MB Black ink I got 20 years ago. Hated it (kept the bottle). I bought MB Royal Blue based on Sandy1's recommendations and am glad I did. It's a great ink and a bargain (I think I paid $16 for 60ml of ink).

Yea it really is a great ink. I think I paid 17 for the same bottle... Now that is 17 CDN though

Nice review, thanks. MB Royal Blue has become a staple in my lineup. An excellent color and equally excellent behavior.
