I just tried Pelikan Blue-Black for the first time in my Sheaffer Snorkel with a wet medium nib, and I love the way the color starts, but as I write it becomes more washed out than the first few words. Turns into a light gray, which is disappointing. It's not bad, I just don't really love it either. It could just be the ink not liking the pen, so I'll have to give it another try in something else. For example, I know I really like the way Sheaffer Skrip Blue-Black looks in my Sheaffer 330 but I don't like the way it looks as much in my beloved Parker "51". Maybe it's because it knows it's in a competitor's pen

Just found an old botle ot Pelikan 4001 Blue-black, and there's a definite green tinge to it, both on the cardboard box and the ink iself. Liiks very differnt from the bluer version reviewed here.

 

Can anyone help explain - is it age, a reformulation, or ...?

Well, it's my favourite ink!

I ran Pelikan blue black through 8 nibs, and two papers. I got 8 tones/hues.

2 nails, 2 regular flex, 3 semi-flex and a somewhat flexible/'flexi'.

 

Best tones on the only two papers I tried it on came to my surprise the Regular Flex F and the Flexi OF which was by far the best.

 

The Regular flex F gave me the tone I expected, the Flexi OF, gave me a dark almost black outline with a vivid blue inside the letter.

 

It was not a real test, only two papers were used.

 

Waterman B-B with 8 other pens only gave me four tones/hues.

 

Richard says a true blue black fades to another tone the next day, and that is what it should do.

i've gone thru a few bottles and never saw that green hue. could it be that it was contaminated? by that i mean, other unclean nibs, with other color inks residue, dipped in the bottle... that can happen, specially if it was a "demo" ink bottle. well, just a guess...
